Wood turning - A Laburnum Bowl - Natures best craftsmanship

In this wood turning project I take a piece of old English Laburnum, which was rotten in the middle, and turn it into a stunning bowl. After the first turn and drying it slowly in my converted freezer kiln, I filled the holes with epoxy resin coloured with some chocolate mica powder. This colour toned very well with the Laburnum's natural appearance.

Well done to you Jim! alls well that ends well, I think laburnham has qualities that can match a lot of the really expensive exotic hardwoods, and we have it in the uk! Like your determination not to give up to minor disasters. A faint heart never won a fair bowl (or should that be lady?! ) I get a lot of satisfaction when having to figure out how to resolve hiccups, Or as my dad used to say - "make a feature out of a cock up" By the way that forstner bit looks a beast and does its job. best wishes, Tony.👍

Hi Matt - Laburnum is poisonous! The dust can affect some people more severely than others. Some may have no problems. For this reason I always wear a respirator and in doing so and producing considerable amounts of shavings and dust in these projects, I've had no problems at all. If you research Laburnum on the web you will find further information but in my experience the risk is low if you take the sensible precautions. Hope this assists, best wishes - Jim
