This is a percussion instrument has many names such as; Asalato, Kashaka, Kosika, Kosh Kash to name a few. It consists of two small maracas joined by a string. Traditionally made from large seeds filled with pebbles or shells.
I made this one with the wood turning lathe, a piece of walnut wood, rice and a length of paracord.
