Well done Mike. It is not as easy as it looks to scrape with such a soft touch. Fantastic piece of burl turned into a beautiful platter. For a self-taught turner you are well up there with the professional’s. A real Welsh artisan. Best regards David

Great job Mike. Even though I live in the US, my ancestors came from Northern Wales. Good to see a Welshman doing such fantastic work. It proves thst Eales can produce quality artisans also.

Hello Mike, Really lovely result as the result of your expert turning with razor sharp tools. I love working with burrs as you can't anticipate how they are going to turn out but mostly they are spectacular. Best wishes, Alan.

Awesome turn Mike! That bowl is loaded with character! I don't think I could be successful turning a piece of wood in that condition. I lost the use of my left arm three years ago. I now turn using my right hand only. Nathan

This is First class! You are setting the bar very high for the rest of us but having something to aspire to is motivation and learning. I haven't forgotten about that other thing we talked about but I'm still having problems with the relationship between this computer and my camera so I'm scared to download any software until I get this issue sorted. As soon as I do I'll let you know. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Good evening Pete ;) Thanks for your encouragement it does take some practice to cut fresh air! Yes I only put the Danish oil on the inclusions, as it's difficult to get the wax right in the deepest parts, so the oil seeps in, and keeps the wood in there nourished. Take care Mike

When im hollowing out a bowl i would tend to use an outward pivot movement using my fingers as a pivot with a 3/4 fingernail ground hamlet bowl gouge (much like glenn lucas's style) before then doing the finishing cuts from outside to centre - whats your thoughts?
@MikeWaldt10 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, I think your method is sound and well proven, I use various different techniques, depending on the wood, and also how I feel on the day, not very professional I grant you, but unfortunately (or fortunately) that's the way I tend to work. Possibly that is also the reason I would never make a living from bowl turning ;). Thanks very much for your input, and support. Take care Mike
