Absolutely stunning as usual! ( Yes, I saved her sticks! At least those not used for firewood. 😁) ❤ 🐶⚱

I do some turnings with wood sent from people who want to preserve some kind of wood that meant something to the family. Matter of fact the Frozen Water Bowl was from a tree that was on the 1st piece of property bought by a couple in my town. The husband passed and the wife brought the wood to me. I turned the Holly Hill Bowl from wood on my new property. Btw sorry to hear about your dog passing. I lost my dog and best friend a year and a half ago. I think about him all the time. Ken

I love the video and the bowl came out Awesome. May I ask what you did to make the circle cutting jig for your bandsaw?
@MoonpieCreations4 жыл бұрын
The circle jig is very easy and simple. It is a rectangle scrap piece of 1/2" plywood that measures around 10"x6". I glued and screwed a 1 1/2" wide piece of plywood to one side to create a 90% angle. This helps secure the jig to the table. I drew a line down the middle of the wood, making a mark every 1/2" from the blade. I drilled holes in each and put a screw where I need it to make a blank. I use a small clamp to secure the jig to the bandsaw. I hope this all makes sense. Ken

I love the semi-transparent colored resin on this one. I've noticed that you tend to prefer a tenon over a mortise for the bottom. Is one "safer" than the other or is that strictly preferential to the turner's desire? Also, the camera angle, from my perspective, makes it hard for me to tell whether the bottom of your bowls is straight across flat, or slightly concave after you work on it in the cole jaws. Could you please satisfy my curiosity by clarifying what your cameras can't? As always, stay safe and thank you for sharing yet another BEAUTIFUL creation!
@rscreationsnc4 жыл бұрын
I prefer tenon's over mortise because it gives me more options for turning the bottom. I haven't noticed one being any safer then the other.
@MoonpieCreations4 жыл бұрын
I agree with Rob, I like tenons as I get more gripping power. But I do not think one is safer than the other. As for the bottom of my bowls. I try to put a slight concave in them. It helps them sit better on a surface. Hope that helps. Ken

Hey. Beautiful piece and I'm still watching. I'm at 7:45... However I noticed you changed your technique at least on this one. It's something I've been meaning to ask as you usually start from the middle and work outwards. However you then have a thinner area to word on the rims and risk chipping. Was this easier? I would at least think so as you didn't have to deal with as higher pressures on the material carved now as there was a lot of chunk behind it all.
@MoonpieCreations4 жыл бұрын
I went back to see what you were talking about. If I am correct you are talking about me leaving the bottom thicker while I got the sides to size. I dis that to decrease the high pitched sequel that happens. Then I slowly bring down the sides to the bottom. I hope I answered it. Ken

OK, your woodturning skills undenied I like the shape of the bowl, but I don't like the color of the resin... why do you prefer blue to a warm color the wood is showing? If I may propose to use gold instead of the white ink in the beginning then - for the big resin pour - mix orange and hazelnut brown 4:1 so you'd receive a color tone in tone with the wood. Why do so many guys like toilette blue or mint as a color to natural wood? I possibly will never understand this...

Kind of agree, but my wife loves the blue. Maybe his sales target leans toward women, how many men purchase bowls like this, and when men purchase are they gifting to their better halves?
@satyr9974 жыл бұрын
@@rstone7727 I think the color choice of women and men may be quite different... due to practical reasons: the blue may remind women of cleanliness (there must be a reason why bathroom tiles are white, blue or mint - or nowadays grey or black) while I was simply looking for the color harmony... but I don't have any issues about a piece appearing 'clean' or matching the tappets on the walls or the china that's already standing about inside the cupboards. BTW.: I didn't recognize if or where MPC sells his pieces - may be only within the U.S.A.?
@unclemoe57334 жыл бұрын
Good point, i love blue but that had an opaque look to it that just didn't hit home for me. Possibly because it was not see through enough, if that makes sense. Your idea is valid. Of all the pretty hybrids he makes, this one just didn't win me over. I did like the idea of the white layer going on at 1st. But that might be what ruined it for me.
@satyr9974 жыл бұрын
@@unclemoe5733 I'm not entirely sure if I'd like to have to many items containing epoxy and wood - or epoxy dominating the wood - as it does with this bowl. On one hand I like it on the other hand I think 'Hey, it's woodturning, not epoxy-turning!' Don't get me wrong: it's an impressing piece but supporting the colors of the wood instead of slamming this blue on it I for sure would have favored.
