Perfect timing again! Heading out to the saw mill guy to see if I can score some small mulberry . He got 2 dump truck loads from a tree service this past Wednesday when I was there. A lot of the logs I saw had an orange/red coloring running end to end, some chemical or fertilizer in the ground? I'm hoping he'll have some cutoff pieces I can get before he's done with cutting into slabs. Loved that double bowl technique. Got to try it. Thank you for another great informative how to video. So little time, so much wood

Thank you for you for using my French culture and language in reference to demonstrate our use of wood bowl for each meal but mostly ouch , dinner and large gatherings. For the last 35 years I have been the Woodturner of our French communities but the Portuguese and Italian community as we share a close traditional habit but the sizes are different and a patterned are requested. Yes we do use quite a number in various sizes of wood bowl and some with certain types of wood, in addition an exception for not using wood bowl is for red pepper because it stains the bowl and the oil penetrates the wood no matter well you protect the bowl or how you wash it. Some need a cover such as fresh garlic, oregano and basil to contain the flavour for the meal. To have the true phonetic it is pronounces “plàsseu”. Love your channel and you.

Great video again! I noticed that you used the tried & true danish oil not the original with the beeswax. Is there a particular reason for this? Also, you said to use mineral or walnut oil to recondition the bowls that you made in the video. If I were to use the tried & true Original, can mineral or walnut oil still be used to recondition or would the beeswax cause a problem?
@TurnAWoodBowl
@TurnAWoodBowl 2 жыл бұрын
Ron, good questions. The T&T Danish Oil was used as a base coat and it dries fast so I can use these sooner. The T&T Original is more durable but takes an extra step. It can be applied over the Danish. And, yes, all the products you mentioned can touch up and restore either the T&T Original or Danish. The T&T products are VERY flexible!!!

Kent, I watch most if not all your videos and I have a question. I see that you use for the most part just two or three main gouges but from time to time I’ve heard you mention that you have several different gouges with different angles on them as well as having different swept back angles on them. For instance you have5/8” gouges with a certain angle and have different swept back angles. Then you will have maybe a 1/2” gouge with a different bevel angle. My question concerns when you get ready to sharpen them. Can you just look at them and know what the bevel angle is or do you have something written on them(like some I’ve seen do)? I just wondered how you keep up with all the different bevel angles. I find that a lot of my time is at the grinder putting the gouge in the Oneway tool, color the end with red ink, test it on the grinder, etc. Then comes the decision with oldie much of a swept back angle I have or want. I can’t think of the Oneway tool is but I’ve seen some turners set the leg of the tools at 23 degrees and never change it but I don’t see how you can get a large swept back angle without changing the angle of the leg of the tool. Just interested in how you keep up with the various angles you use along with the swept back part, and do you Change the angle of the Oneway tool to get a real swept back angle. Thank you and enjoy watching your videos. Learning gradually as my 76 year old brain will let me.

I enjoyed the bowls made from one piece of wood. It appears that you have a screen or something behind you, does it help keeping the shavings under control?
