Hi Kent, turned my 1st ever bowl this weekend.. which was a live edge bowl this. What an experience as I do not have a bowl gouge🤕 I also struggled with finishing the inside of the bowl without a fancy drill sander, but it turned out ok. So, thank you, I appreciate the inspiration and tips in the videos you make! My wife complains that I watch your videos more than listen to her. ☺I clearly have much to learn still, but the reaction I got from the family was priceless.

Ever tried wet sanding? I switched and it’s great…no dust, sand faster, cleaner..paper last longer. 180 grit wet sanded looks like 400 dry. Never going back to dust! Yeah, power sanding wet is the way to go for sure.

Good stuff! I'll have to try that wood glue trick. I glued my index and middle fingers together a couple days ago with CA glue so it's nice to have an alternative to CA. I had to soak my hand in acetone for about a hour to get my fingers apart. Lol

Hello Kent, in your videos you use Tried and True original and danish oil. Is there one you prefer over the other? Great bowl.

Good question Michael. I use the original with traditional rimmed bowls because I can burnish it easily on the lathe. With live edge it isn't easy to burnish because of the edge so I use the Danish oil more on live edge. Both work great! Happy Turning!

I bought my lathe during the first lockdown and you've been my greatest resource. Thank you for all of the great information. Just a question though. Why wouldn't you take a few rough full passes on the inside to balance the bowl before establishing the wall thickness? I'm still a rookie..but curious. Thank you again for this channel. Its been invaluable.

Kent, can you explain when returning the inside of the bowl, why don’t you take a skim cut to true the inside before you start taking the inside wall down to its final thickness?

Good question Peter. Really no need to make a full inside pass since I work down the wall bit by bit. You could true up the inside if you like. I choose to deal with each section at a time. All the best to you and Happy Turning!
