Hi Mike. Another excellent video. I've been using the excellent hollower from Glen Teagle and am very pleased with it. It is surprising that the tiny cutter does such a good job. The other product I'm delighted with is Yorkshire Grit as it can eliminate the minuscule sanding marks that can escape observation. Keep up the good work.

Hello again Mike! I am again late on the scene. I see you posted this in 2016.... It is March 2022. I loved this segment so much I ordered this tool. I couldn't get it from the UK but I found a Canadian Company that sent one to me. I love it. I bit of a learning curve for me however. NO regrets. Are you indeed still using it and find it as useful as you hoped? So far I have only used it to make a few hollow Christmas ornaments.
@MikeWaldt2 жыл бұрын
Once again I'm pleased to say it is my go to tool for the smaller hollowing jobs.
@Tommo1588 жыл бұрын
Hi Mike. Something I have often wondered about the items that you turn. Do you work out a rough or maybe a detailed plan or do you just 'wing it' as they say and let the object develop in your mind as you turn? What made me wonder was how quickly you just changed all your dimensions to remove the major crack, no hesitation , pure confidence in your ability, amazing. Lovely piece by the way 😊
@MikeWaldt8 жыл бұрын
Hi Tom, I have always started a project with a "rough" idea of what I want, and then as you so succinctly put it "wing" it from there! :) I have never been one for detailed plans, a failing that I am too old to change. Thanks for watching, and your kind words. Take care Mike

hi mike great video as always. thinking off treating my self for my up and coming birthday and just wondering if this would be ok to help finish the inside off bowls aswell?as I'm wanting to work my way up to a hollow form thanks again Rob
@MikeWaldt8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Rob, I see no reason why the the large cutter couldn't be used to get a good finish on bowls as well, in fact i would be certain it would work well...just mu opinion :) Cheers Mike

Hi mike great result and video. Do you turn between Steb centres in the video and have you tried the Axminster ones and are they benifit to new turnersThanks
@MikeWaldt8 жыл бұрын
+Roger Dorsett Thank you Roger, the ones I have are Sorby, but I understand the Axminster ones are good as well. The benefit for new turners is that they will slip if you get a catch, which can help in the beginning. I use them because I like them...lol. Cheers Mike

Early Christmas present... yeah, I do that too. So, what are you getting for Christmas? That turned out well. You can't trust Cherry, even when it looks stable it cracks but it's well worth the effort. Those tools look very tempting. Now, which 'Christmas present' am I at now? Best Wishes, Brendan.

Quite a nice little hollowform Mike. I’ve watched this video a few times over the last several months and after turning some bowls and boxes (which are my favorite things to make) I’ve decided to give small hollowforms a try. I’ve narrowed my choices for hollowing tools down to two and will probably go with this one. Could you tell me if the ride on the hooked tool is flat on the bottom? If not is there any problem with it wanting to twist, or since the tip is at a 45° angle is that not an issue? Thanks for all the great videos, you and a few others have brought me along way since I started woodturning.
@MikeWaldt6 жыл бұрын
Thank you. When using the hook tool the "bend" should be in front of the tool rest, if the bend is on or behind the rest the tool will want to dip on you. Hope this helps. Cheers Mike
@cigarsmoka97416 жыл бұрын
That’s for the reply Mike. I mistyped my question though. Is the part of the bar that sits on the tool rest round or flat on the bottom?
@MikeWaldt6 жыл бұрын
Oh OK, the bar is round :)

I am fairly new to turning and would like some advice. I have seen some nice looking chisels on Ebay for what looks like a fair price, but need to know if they are good quality. They are Neilsen Wood Turning Chisels 8 Piece Long Handles Lathe HSS Steel Blade 15T. I have read somewhere that Neilson are good,is this true..Love your channel by the way lots of interesting info and good education and some great pieces. Thanks Alan.
@MikeWaldt8 жыл бұрын
Hi Alan, I must confess I thought that Lie Nielson did not make turning tools, only hand tools. However I cannot say as I have never had experience of them, I do know that the Lie-Nielson handtools are amongst the best. Sorry I can't be of more help Take care Mike
