It looks like that bowl that every poker playing father would love. He would eat out of it, put his keys in it, or it would sit in the center console of his truck. He would tell these wildly made up stories about all the bowl was made, like they were playing poker on the beach and it got struck by lightning that melted the sand and cards into a bowl. What I'm trying to say is that looks awesome.

I think it would've been neat to see you get a few dozen decks of cards, and then sort all of the decks such that you have multiples of each card. Then you can stack them and get an effect similar to what you had with the Ace of Spades. I think that would look cool!

Another cool cards in resin idea would be to do a shallow initial resin pour, wait until it reaches that super stiff sticky jello phase, and stick a bunch of cards in at various angles (no wood in this one), then do another pour that captures the cards in place. I suspect it would be a cool way to play with depth.

These woodturning videos are like ASMR for me...methinks I should watch my dad when he does some woodturning projects he does. He's made pens, spinning tops, bowls, urns, Christmas ornaments, magic wands (like the ones you'd see in the Harry Potter films), and all sorts of things. I never would imagine anyone would do wood turning with random things encased in resin :)

As a solid block for the center of the bowl. Resin is ridiculously expensive. Use a wooden plug to occupy that space, which is going to end up getting hollowed out anyway, during the resin pouring, curing, and turning process, rather than filling it with resin and having the bowl cost 6 times as much to make.
@maimee2angel
@maimee2angel 3 жыл бұрын
@@Dosbomber I realize this is woodturning but I keep thinking can’t mold or silicone be use to replace the wood
@Dosbomber
@Dosbomber 3 жыл бұрын
@@maimee2angel The wood used to make the plug is cheap, yet solid enough to hold the entire mass of resin, wood, and anything else during the turning process. Because wood is solid and strong, it will hold up to the turning process, especially when you're using screws to hold it to a metal plate which attaches to your lathe. Silicone, in some applications, could be used to occupy the space of more expensive resin, but when turning a bowl or similar object on a lathe, it isn't rigid enough, wouldn't stick to the inside of the bowl during the "outer side" turning process (imagine a silicone plug letting loose of your wood/resin bowl while it's spinning at 2000+ RPM.. remember, silicone is not supposed to stick to things), and actually is pretty darn expensive as well.

Sabrina 😃👍🏼👋🏼

It looks pretty cool regardless but a quick question. Why did you choose to put the cards in the bowl in spaced out stacks instead of layering them to make a complete wall? I know it may have taken 2-3 decks instead of 1 to have an actual thickness to it but it looks a little odd with the big spaces of resin in between.

The biggest issue with this is that you can’t see most of the cards and some of them have very little left after you took off some of the resin (a red royal card on the left at 9:32). I think it would have been better to glue the cards to the wood then surround them with resin.
