Hi Ken, Yes I think you can use other things like varnish or shellac. I just use the wax it's fast and easy. Yes you need to coat the inside too so it's all sealed.

I got it on Ebay. It's comes in blocks and I melt it down. Carl

I just out it on high tell it melts.

Was the wood completely dry? Did it crack in the beeswax or after? The beeswax I use is 100' and is yellow.

Great Carl. Where did you hear of coating the inside with beeswax? I assume it is to keep the wood from getting spit-soaked. Is that the generally preferred method or could other preservatives be used, i.e. varnish, shellac, etc? Is there any other reason for doing it?

Where do you get your beeswax? I've searched online and found the wax to come in block and liquid forms. Thank you.

Hi Carl, I've always been fascinated about bird calls, not just duck calls eh! Can you buy other calls? Is the beeswax 100% or do you add any thinners or oils to it? Thanks for sharing yet another interesting video. Cheers Andy

Does your lath have a reeves drive? It sounds just like mine. I just friction melt the bees wax on with an old tee shirt.

How durable is this and have you ever tried carnauba vs bee's?

I think the carnauba wax is more durable.
