Thank you very much James. After seeing Phil using it a few years ago I decided to get a few sand-o-flex's. They do a great job. Prior to getting a them I used a nylon abrasive wheel with a 1/4 inch shaft. Thanks for watching, Gary

My wife just caught me staring at our two apple trees in the front yard. She asked me "what are you doing?" Sizing up these trees to see how big my bowls will be, I said. She didn't care for my answer. No way she said. I told her to look what Gary made with an apple blank though. She was impressed with the bowl, but not my plans. Gary, stunning work as usual. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you Steve! Well I get the same thing when I stare at all the huge burls on our Siberian Elm tree. She likes my bowls I have made from burls but I best not cut any off this tree if I know what is good for me. We had it trimmed two years ago and there was burls way up there. The whole trunk section is just full of burls...sorry I had to take a second to wipe the tears out of my eyes while I realized that is where they will be staying LOL. I would not cut that tree down because I love it as much as she does. Thanks for watching, Gary

That is the prettiest piece of Apple I have seen, Gary! Many times it is quite plain and colorless but you got a beauty and made the most of it! I lover everything about his piece including the thick walls. They make for a very substantial, comfortable piece, like something that won't break in a hurry. I appreciate that you worked hard to keep that feature along the top edge in place. And such a beautiful finish! And, whoa, that nub removal! Excellent! LOL! Just a relly nice piece and a fun video to watch. Great job, my friend! 😊 Phil
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Thank you Phil. I have not seen any other this nice. I am thinking the branch that had to heal over might have helped create all that color inside. But it is a guess for sure. At first all I thought I had of interest but all that changed once I started cutting the inside. That was a the best nub removal I have had. All I could think was Phil must have taken over on this one without me looking. I had to rerun that section just to make sure it was me LOL. But it was you that should us all the trick. But wait till next week the nub removal is more like I for got to engage my brain when I jammed the gouge into it LOL. See ya later, Gary

That Apple wood looks great. I was told it’s not good to turn and cracks a lot but your piece looks beautiful. I like the pinkish hue of the wood. Nice job Gary.
@ThePapa19472 жыл бұрын
Thank you Michael! A lot of people do not like cracks and voids but they do add a lot to the piece. When a piece is this dry I do not expect it to crack anymore than it already has. I think that is a concern with a lot of turners. That and thinking you MUST remove the pith. That is another thing I do not worry all that much about. At least on most wood that I turn. Thanks for watching, Gary

Gary, this has nothing to do with the apple piece that this is attached to, but I just wanted to thank you for the “wet sanding” tip to fill in cracks. Thank You Gary.....Nice one ..Apple wood with a knot (or is that an apple core). When I tune in I always expect something elaborate, mind blowing, laminated and I seem to feel like I need to take notes like back in school, ha. Some times I get lost in your process BUT I LOVE IT!!! No notes this morning and fun to sit back, wake up, have some coffee and enjoy the relaxing process of basic woodturning ( I can kind of turn my brain off ... a bit... ha). Gary your woodturning is always very enjoyable no matter what your turning and each time I always learn something new. Each piece of wood dictates the direction or misdirection you follow to have a finished piece. Applewood is beautiful...TM

Thanks so much Dave. Nothing wrong with a belt drive lathe. That is what I learned on and turned some massive sized patterns at work using a lathe with the old flat belt system. Yes one with a electronic speed is nice but the function of a lathe is to spin the wood and they both do that. Thanks for watching and commenting, Gary

Tis certainly is a spectacular piece of Apple Wood and beautifully turned. This allows the full exploitation of the grain that you have done SO well Gary. We get to enjoy the full beauty of the grain and colour of the wood. Don from South Aust.

I love the videos, voice sound is good and loud and easy to hear and the actual turning sound is a little lower not making your ears bleed if you use headphones, it is amazing, thank you for that, so many other turners do not do that at all, beautiful "i dont know" bowl though haha

Thank you Michael. Not complaining but I do go through a lot of work lowering the sound while cutting and then fading it back in for voice. I do not care for full volume wood turning either. The software makes it easy and I just have to choose the place I want to do it. Happy you enjoy that part of my videos. Well I did not know for over a year what I wanted to do with it. Having lots of other wood I had plenty of time to figure it out. But it was stored under my shed for well over a year. Thanks for watching, Gary
