Thank you that was a great session. The vibe is something to get use to, but when it was all said and done, I really appreciated the quality of the content and the chill atmosphere that you create with joyous intention. Peace & Unwarped lumber🌈

I highly recommend people watch this video before downloading any extensions and learn to frame walls from scratch (like we used to do). I'm not saying don't use extensions, I'm just saying you really need to know the fundamentals of SketchUp first (ie. Grouping your geometry etc...). Once you have gone through this process and actually worked through a few simple designs like the one shown above and then also made modifications to it you will quickly gain a new found respect for what the plugins/extensions do for you. Thank-you Aaron for once again breaking it down to the lowest common denominator, this is good stuff.

Great tutorial. So many Sketchup videos about framing, but so few Sketchup nerds who KNOW framing.

I suppose there is some truth to that but you can’t expect everyone to know everything.

Nice techniques on uses of components and groups. I do appreciate the humor you guys are trying to impart as well as the skills you are teaching. Having said that, this video and the information could have been done in half the time or less. We all learn at different speeds. The pause button can be used by those that need more time. Keep it up guys. Thank you

Thanks, Mark! These live streams are not necessarily meant to be "follow along" type videos, but a chance for us to hang out with the SketchUp community, live, and model something. The pace has more to do with conversation and comments that come in, rather than pausing for people to catch up... we generally shoot for 1 1/2 - 2 hours of video for one of these live sessions.

Timber Framing/Post & Beam/Mortise & Tenon would be really interesting to see. I bet you’d have a lot of fun with it, especially depending on how intricate you want to go with the joinery…

Great base camp Aaron. I am a frame and trim carpenter, but to try and keep up with the more advanced/green style of building, I am trying to break into the prefabricated SIPS (structural insulated panels), and their assembly. If you are familiar with this system, I believe this is the future of building.

Good stuff as always! I was wondering though whether you might have been better off leaving the top plate off until the rest of the framing was done. It seemed like there was an awful lot of making unique and adjusting for what is a few very simple bits of geometry.

Framing lumber is not its stated dimensions because after it is dried it is milled to make it more consistent which reduces its size.

If you use the 3d space mouse wireless that has two buttons and an mmo mouse which has 12 (look that up if you're not sure what I mean by mmo mouse) you can have access to roughly 100 shortcuts without touching your keyboard. 100 shortcuts is far more then you'd need and as a result of this, this method is much more efficient then using the spacemouse pro like you have Aaron, because with the pro you need to overstretch your fingers to find a button, also much harder to find without looking. This is a much faster and more fluid way to model and saves money. Also, a lot of push pulling, much faster in some views to click in and select just the face of the edge of a stud and drag it into position hotkeying the arrow keys to keep it on axis instead of push pulling everything and having to orbit around to see the face and push pull it with your camera.

At 38 minutes, why not copy the two wall frames to themselves, then draw a line from one corner to the diagonal other corner. Pick the centre point and rotate 180 degrees. Now go ahead and work on the wall openings.

Hi. I've watched several of your Videos, which are all great. But, this one is so long winded. It's at 13.22 mins before you even start adding a piece of beam!! and why there's a need to have other people also talking over you, sells yourself short. I'm afraid I quit after a while as it was soooo slow.

This is more confusing than helpful. You don't explain how you hid everything but the Wall 01 group. It's also confusing that you use a Mac rather than a PC. You could do a much better job of explaining the tools that you are using and the steps that you are taking to perform these tasks.

For a 1 hr and 36 minute video, there is a lot of non sense. I get the whole live thing, but stay on topic. Dont need the background sounds, interruptions, all the other non sense stuff that isnt needed. Literally, the whole video wouldve been done in 10 minutes and many other things couldve been talked about.

I don't want to be rude and rain on your parade but, I don't watch you anymore since you partnered up with a co-host ,I find it very annoying to watch ,no offense to your co-host he seems to be a genuine kind a guy but sorry can't watch .I don't know if you lost or gain a lot of subscribers because of this change ,but my advice to you before you go to far with this ,is you should make a pole and ask your audience to see if they want you with a co-host or going back before ,just teaching us how too.And you decide what the subscribers really want .Cheers

If more structured learning is your thing, we also create the Level Up SketchUp videos (here on KZbin), or you can try out our more regimented learning on SketchUp Campus (learn.sketchup.com).
