I agree Van, who wants to look at a sad carving. Excellent work. Thank you for sharing.

The thing I have really learned from you is how important setting up the carving in an organized way is. You get the underlying planes correct first, and then turn the planes into the facial features. I never knew that's how it's done.

Thanks van I’m really struggling with expressions on my carvings.. I need to stop being scared of messing my carvings up by experimenting… it’s just a piece of wood you’re right 🙏

Thank you for the lesson. This is what I ment earlier, but then a tad more whimsical (like from Pete Leclair.)

I have been practicing with 1x1x4 basswood blocks. The tight space doesn’t leave a lot of room for error when learning. Maybe I need to change to something bigger like what you are working with. Great video and teaching as always!

I use a lot of 1x1s but a 2x2 might work better, or even just a 1 1/2x1 1/2.

Thanks for taking the time to teaching us. What kind of glove do you have on your left hand. Is it just a regular leather glove?

Yes, nothing super special. Just give a good layer of protection.

I just cannot get my eyes to turn out like yours. Very frustrating for a beginner.
