I am Austrian, 12 years young back then ... I was a SUPER LEEDS UNITED FAN! Loved their game - and notice - it was 1975 - sooo different to "know" or "watch" a foreign soccer club ... and I love all the super players ... in that time LEEDS UNITED just had only NATIONAL TEAM PLAYERS in the team! England - Wales - Scotland - Northern Ireland - Ireland - just heroes in the team! And remember or let you tell you (younger readers :-) ) WE HAD THAT SUPER-SEMIFINAL: REAL MADRID - BAYERN MÜNCHEN ... FC BARCELONA - LEEDS UNITED .... Bayern went over Real Madrid - Leeds went over Barcelona ... LEEDS UNITED was the super-big favourite for the final in Paris vs Bayern ... LEEDS dominated the whole match ... Bayern came 2-times in front of the LEEDS goalkeeper ... and scored 2 goals ... well ... then the Leeds fans or "fans" droped down to the field their plastic seats ... and MY SUPER CLUB WAS BANNED FROM INTERNATIONAL GAMES for years ... all the stars left LEEDS UNITED of course ... A SUPER TIME OF EUROPEAN FOOTBALL ... Ajax ... Bayern ... Leeds ... Barcelona .... Real ... I WILL ALWYS REMEMBER MY STARS OF FOOTBAL IN THESE 1970s ... ♥

Kids would stand right on the wall literally about 6 feet from the touchline, Ralph Coates and Steve Kindon flying down the wing almost within touching distance. Burnley had a great team tehn fantastic attacking football. Moved to London when I was 18 and started supporting West Ham, Moore, Hurst, Billy Bonds, more great players. We would stand on the North Bank crammed in, the crowd swaying, moving up and down when there was a shot or a save, singing Bubbles, the adrenaline was incredible. They killed the game for me when it went all seating, just not the same now.

Lorimer said "Cheating is the only way to describe what went on at the Parc de Princes 40 years ago. Sorry if that offends anyone but it’s how we felt. When it comes to apportioning blame, you’ve got to point the finger at the referee first and foremost. Great player though he was, Beckenbauer was well known for getting in the ears of referees. It’s what he did. I’d seen it when he played for Bayern and I’d seen it when he played for Germany. I’m still convinced that he was responsible for persuading the officials to disallow my goal in the second half. Uli Hoeness, their forward, was interviewed on TV and asked about 1975. In his own words, he said that the result was a travesty. The better team lost and they lost for no other reason than the performance of the referee. I can’t disagree.”

I don't want to sound racist, but the Latins are world champions at provoking when they realise they can't win a game fairly. The problem is, we always fall for it. And that's what McQueen did. Same with Beckham. Simeone admitted later trying to get Beckham sent off by over-reacting to the kick and then, along with other members of his team, urging the referee to send him off. Then the wink from Ronaldo as Rooney got (rightly) sent off. The "best" ones were Neymar alias "Rawhide" in 2018 (rolling, rolling, rolling )and Rivaldo in 2002 (getting the ball passed to him for a corner, hits him on the shins, falls over holding his head). The Italians also got Zidane sent off by disgusting provokation.

And now the Brits have followed suit. The things that Britain was renowned for, is no longer. Hard working. Resilient. Honest. Strong backbone. Stoic. Now we are weak, lazy, spineless, cheating, spoilt and wanting the glory without the work or responsibility. Wonder what the cause is? 🤔🤔

What are you talking about?The commentary is clear and you can listen over and over again.He says "Whether he connected or not,i couldn't tell you" So the legend that is B Moore didn't question the decision of the ref.I question why you would write that when it's clearly untrue?

Shocked to see someone sent off in the seventies for something as piddling as a punch,and not that good a one it has to be said.Normally,it took at least at stabbing before the ref thought about getting a card out. Messi is the best player I've ever seen,but it's hard to believe that he wouldn't have spent a lot of time lying face down in the mud after a disgusting knee high tackle or six,and consequently of course he would have suffered a lot more injuries.
@dujuan96463 жыл бұрын
Apart from the tackles I’d bet on him, the defending was shambolic in that era
@suffern633 жыл бұрын
@@dujuan9646 Yes,but the tackles,well not the tackles the brutal fouls,are the problem.If thugs kick you on the knee every game then in the end you get injured and of course you score less goals as you can't run with a broken leg.Messi would have been a genius in any age but it was a different game,with different rules,different pitches and different kit back then.

They could play. They couldnt beat Chelsea. In this match they actually played continental football not hoof ball English teams were known for at the time. Notice Barca played out from the back and they were no soft touch thr 1st leg was brutal. They had the legendary Cruyff and Neeskens and Brazils Marinho from the '74 world cup team that still contained some of the 1970 legends minus Pele.

Fancy Barca trying to mix it with Leeds the toughest team from the most physical league in Europe - not going to end well. I remember a European Game when a Red Star Belgrade player was kicking lumps from Graham Souness. When the ref back was turned Souness lumped him one and broke his jaw.

Just depended on which channel was scheduled to show european football on that particular night. Unlike now, in the 70's 80's etc bbc and itv both showed european football. I think generally bbc and itv would alternate between each leg. BBC Sportsnight ITV The midweek match/midweek sport special.
