***** central CT. Born in wrentham :) I welded an angle iron frame that slides over a mailbox post and attached a free steel box to it that I painted sparkle silver. Now I can slide my mailbox off the post and take it in when it snows :)

Thanks for the inspiration! It looks well built. How has it held up? Between your pallet shingles and your birch wall...something clicked for me. I put ice shield over the entire roof of the catio I recently built but don't have shingles yet. I live in the woods...I'll consider slicing up birch for shingles! I'll have to seal each one all over so they don't rot.

Like that you used a regular brass plated hinge for the door, MY postmistress is always ripping the damn door off any mailbox I put up there so with the same idea as you used, I wanna hear her say that it fell off because it was overused & old now..

I have a similar mailbox, and I am trying to figure out how to attach it to the post. Most manufactured mailboxes are recessed on bottom, so you can screw it to a board. How do you screw this one to the board, on top of the post. I can't imagine from the inside. Maybe from the bottom up? These are quite a bit heavier than your usual mailbox, so I am wondering if there is additional support for it.

Beautiful! But the only things is, I've used old pallet wood myself for projects only to discover that they don't use dried wood to make pallets, and after a few years the wood shrinks and cracks. Also your fingers were a bit too close to the band saw blade. Would the savings in time be worth it if you cut yourself? Otherwise bravo!

that is a very nice mailbox but the end result at the end left me feeling sad. the way the box appears once it is mounted to the pole. it should be plumb not all droopy looking. should make it stand proud as a work of art should be.
