@@pex1111Because varnish doesn't go on metal. So instead of needing to clean it all off of the metal afterwards, just varnish it before installing the bits and pieces. Saves time and looks cleaner. Also some varnishes can hurt some metals.

As a hobby blacksmith for nearly a decade, those look handmade...and incredibly simple to make. I forged a traditional socket handled woodworking bevel back chisel with laminated construction (mild steel with an old file for the cutting end). Never thought to forge simple carving chisels but then again I don't do much carving.

Probably just a stiff species of reed. That's what most of the world used until modern materials were made. It mostly Europeans & East Asians that needed heavier arrows because of their need to shoot through plates of metal. Reeds and are literally the only thing in nature of the right size & shape that doesn't need to be straightened before getting made into an arrow.

Neat design, though could be made far more powerful by making the handle longer so that longer elastic bands could be used and pre tensioning them so that they continue accelerating the projectile over an extended distance. A brace similar to a wrist rocket would allow for greater tension to be applied.

Beautiful results and incredible tool skills! I feel so sorry for the fletching on your arrows though XD A few questions about the order of operations: Why did you drill the dowel after installing it? Why did you stain/lacquer/coat the wood after installing the non-wood bits? Also curious about how it's held up over time. It's not often covered in a lot of DIY videos but I think it's an important question to ask.
