I have one of these jigs and as shown is very easy to use and precise. I will admit though the very first time I used it on my router table cutting an 8 inch long, 1/2 inch thick Red Oak board with a 1/4" spiral bit my bit worked loose and steadily climbed up with each pass until it came out of the collet and headed for parts unknown. I was standing behind the jig as in the video and moving the board by feel when this happened and have since paid much more attention when cutting the joints.

I'm considering this jig but would need to be able to run boards as wide as 17"... can this be done as long as my table is wide enough and I maybe clamp to the jig for stability?

@TrojanWarrior74 Safe doesn't exist, there are merely levels of risk. I agree, toggle clamps might lower the risk, but I feel comfortable holding the stock myself, as I do when I use a cross-cut sled or a miter square. In other words, this jig is not "very dangerous" as you said. It is merely that the you perceive it to have a level of risk higher than you feel comfortable w/. I respect your concern for your own safety, but I'll let my own experience inform me of what I think is dangerous.
