I agree that Woodkid has been underrated. This vid is 13 years old, so that's a view compilation over a long time. They were killing it in 2012, some of the earliest YT vids of awesome concerts. Few years back...we used this theme for our Assassin Creed Cosplay Competition. It was awesome. Our team consisted of at least 15 people. 3 Assassins and 12 Templars. It took us like 6 months to choreograph our fighting scenes. We landed number 1 for our local cosplay for team effort and stunt choreography. Costume we got 2nd place. It was not so bad though.

My brother and I sat down and listened to the whole album, and we have our own theory on what the whole thing is about. Its long, but I think that it is a solid idea. TLDR is at the bottom for anyone who cares. It opens with The Golden Age, telling us about the protagonists life as a kid IE, the golden age. But at some point in the song, his father turns abusive. In the music video, it seems like its because his wife was cheating on him, but it could be any other number of things like alcoholism, drug addiction, ect. Run boy run is the kid fleeing from his oppressive home to find a more welcoming place. In the music video we see creatures rising up with him. I think that these are people who helped out the kid one way or another, to get to a ship and sail away to a different neighboring country to start a new life. However, these two country's do not like each other very much. This is the great escape. He falls in love with one of the people helping him out while fleeing. Finally, it comes time for his departure by ship. But the girl claims that she cannot come with him. This is the boat song. As he is sailing, he realizes that the girl was using him, and that she had another love. In the music video for this song, the organ player states what the story is about. "Today, i'll tell you a story about a man who drowned in the cold waters of the ocean after losing the one he loved. This is a story of a man who died twice". Notice how it said he lost the one he loved, not that she died. Saying that he drowned in the cold waters of the ocean is the boat taking him away. The kid that we often saw in other music videos is "dead", showing that the childhood innocence and youth that he once had is gone, and that he is now a man. The shore is him arriving in this new country, but all of the things that he expected simply wasn't true. His life wasn't any better, and he misses home and the girl that he loved, even though he was not loved back. Ghost lights is the man slowly forgetting all of the fond memories he had of home as they are replaced with current experiences of an unforgiving and unwelcoming foreign land. No matter how hard he trys to remember, the memory fades. Shadows depicts the "ghost lights" of memory fading into shadows. All happy thoughts that took him this far are on the there last legs, and he soon becomes very depressed. Stabat Mater depicts rising political conflicts between his home country and the country he immigrated to. It seems like these conflicts will inevitably end in war. The man is thinking about how if he goes home in war, will his "love" be waiting for him, ready to accept him. In conquest of spaces the man is deciding to join the war to get close to the only place he remembers being happy, home. He wants to fight his way back to his love that abandoned him. His goal is clearly not that sane, and his last strings of sanity are begging him to rethink. In falling, his depression takes over and he enlists in the military anyways. In where I live, we hear from both the man and what the man hopes the girl is thinking. The man enlisted in war says Where I'm born is where I'll die, meaning he wants to die on his homelands soil. While the girl is "waiting for the sun", AKA waiting for the pure man she let sail away. Other clues in the lyrics support this, if you care to check. Iron clearly depicts the adrenaline before battle, as the man lines up to fight for a country he doesn't love to get to the girl he does love. However, it was a bloodbath. In the other side, the man is slain. He dies an honor-less death, without having spilt even a drop of blood on the other side. He was put on the front lines as cannon fodder because he was an immigrant. He clearly sees how frugal his hope was, and with his last breath he understands that one thing is certain. He will see his love on the other side. TLDR: A boy has a good childhood but runs from home and someone he loved but wasn't loved back. He arrives in another country where he gets depressed, and joins in a war to get back home. He dies in the bloodbath, and knows that he will see his love on the other side. PS: This version is WAY to simple to fully describe everything, please read the whole thing!
