I used one as a Boy Scout in the 1970s and used mine in the Maine woods today. Great tool.

I have an older model with the leather handle and hand guard. Sharpened my blade all the way to the end and love it.

I think that might have been designed for cutting roots but I like the term gut hook better so were going with that :)

Glad you said this was hoping people were not wondering "why he is still showing me the strap?" but it's really nice & actually gives some support. Pet the dog for me!

Just picked up one in mint condition with the stacked leather handle and hand guard for $50 at the flea market. Next time I get out in the woods I'm going to take it as a one tool option to see just how much I can get done with it.

Sink it into your chopping log. Like you did to show how it sticks in. With the curve out, and stable now, you can hold the stick instead of the blade. Adjust your angle of the stick for the thickness of feather you want, and then start shaving it. Much safer. Much more control. I do this with a mora also, just stick it in a tree lol. Whatever keeps you from lobbing of pieces of yourself in the woods, is the best choice lol.

I'm NOT sponsored by the company and it's the greatest all around camp/survival tool I've found in my 52 years. I'll either throw in my Buck 822 or Leatherman Supertool 300 as a backup depending on the trail and destination, and I'm set. The only other tool I need is a spork. Sorry Woodman's, I can't eat with the PAL. :o) That's about ALL you can't do with it.

This. It really is the best. I'm about to to a side by side shoot out showing it just get's more done than an axe & a knife & for less weight. I just love the hook at the end & I feel it chops as good as a hand axe.

The Woodsman PAL has been around since 1941 or 42. It was used in WWII. Since WWI U.S. involvement was 1917 to 1918 the Woodsman Pal wasn't even around yet.

This is a good tool but price is way too high. Today this is selling for $180 to $200. To me this is a $60 tool at most. I think I’d rather carry a small hatchet and a mora both can be picked up for $50 or less possibly. Make the woodsman pal in China and sell it for $60 probably sell five times as many.
@chris9793
@chris9793 2 жыл бұрын
The chinese knockoffs aren't as good, and because of them the company that owns Woodsman Pal tried finding ways to cut the costs to sell them for cheaper, but those ones were not even close to the same quality, and they had Quality issues that tarnished the Woodsman Pals long historical of High Quality, so, the company went back to how they've always done things, which is having each Pal handmade in the US, and currently they are made by the Amish in PA. I will be ordering one on Monday, and I'm 110% ok with the price for such a high quality made tool:)
@Tracy81258
@Tracy81258 6 ай бұрын
Too many people are so worried about the price of something that they completely forget about the cost they pay. Your cheap Chinese made tool means you’re paying to put your neighbor out of work and subsidizing the expansionist ambitions of the Communist Party of China.
