@St. Haborym No, it is not, actually. It is the name of the Flemish town Ieper (Ypres, in English), where a lot of Canadian soldiers fought in WWI. The Flemish pronunciation is more like "Ee-per" (with a very short "Ee"), but in English it is either "Ee-pers", "Ee-prey", or even "Wipers". As for Woods of Ypres, I read a comment of David Gold himself on a forum somewhere that he pronounces it as "Ee-prey".

I admire how brilliant the lyrics of this song are! a lot of songs about broken hearts are written in elevated speech with a bunch of metaphors and epithets. But David told the story of the breakup as it is, as we all experienced it once. In simple words, right to the point. Right in the heart. I listened to this song for the first time, and a smile appeared on my face.
