The car may be patterned after the “Brook” series duplex sleepers used by the Pennsylvania RR - 5 bedrooms and 12 roomettes- the roomettes were staggered one over another, thus the two levels of windows. Although not a fan of plastic couplers, an easy way to replace the “horn hook” couplers on these cars is to use McHenry couplers made for Rivarrosi passenger cars - just pull out the existing coupler & snap in the McHenry. Be sure to check the truck style & suggest using ones with knuckle springs.😊

Beautiful haul!!!! I love the Atlas SD35 [small fan between the big fans and no flared radiators] . The AHM cars are fantastic!! They should look good behind your Pa1s!!! The offset windows make it a duplex sleeper [actually a PRR car]. Congrats on your new acquisitions. Enjoy!!.

Nice haul part 2! The AHM cars are Rivorassi and need a bit of weight added in-between the truck pins inside the car. You can always power the third dummy unit to help pull the passenger consist. Another issues with the AHM/Rivorassi/IHC passenger cars are the trucks and wheels. They really need heavy metal wheels and axles. An option for shorter passenger cars is to find some Athearn Blue Box cars they are a shorter car by almost 1" (25mm). One thing to find is the CV for the decoder reset, sometimes that's all that's needed to bring it back to life.

This is a great haul. The two levels of windows on that passenger car are bunk-beds in a sleeper. One set of bunks on top, and one on the bottom. Back when we still had these running in Canada, I would often take the sleeper this way, as it was way cheaper than a full roomette (I was a student, and didn't have much cash for travel). I don't know if they still use these on any of the VIA lines, but they might...I figured most things have been converted to roomettes and suites by now.

Scott a couple of things. That second row of windows on top is probably because it is a double decker with seating on 2 levels. Also as I commented on Friday night I have the same CPRail locomotive that you do and I have nothing but 18" radius track on my layout. The locomotive runs just fine. So you should be OK. Nice haul by the way. Love those train shows. Get good deals all the time. I might have to modify some but still far cheaper than buying new.

I think another idea for the AHM trucks is to modify the location of the pivot pin. Moving it closer to end of the cars will reduce the front and rear overhang, but will increase the middle of the cars overhang. So it might still crash into things lol. Good luck with them. I have a 10 car passenger consist of Walters Great Northern Empire Builder and I can get them to run on the Kato Unit rack in HO at the I think it's just over 18" radius. The Athearn Blue Box passenger cars are a bit heavier then the AHM cars and run on the 18" curves easier. Again good luck. Hope you will be able to make your next layout using Nickel Silver track and get some flexi track as well.

The Union Pacific passenger cars are a great addition to the layout. Some of the cars are the Mail car- Railway Postal Office (RPO), the car with glass dome - Vista dome or "Dome car", the car with multilevel windows - Sleeper car, and the tail car is an Observation car. As far as a dining car, they will usually have a small door on one side in the middle or towards on end of the car. This door is for loading supplies into the car. Also, this car usually doesn't have any vestibule doors for entering or exiting the car. Another tidbit of information on the dome car would be that some railroads had a version of the dome glass that went the whole length of the car. My pick out of the bunch would be the Chessie (B&O) SD35. I personally have a couple of these units, and I like the detail and performance. Also, for reference, the exhaust stack (single stack) for turbocharged EMD locomotives faces towards the cab while the other locomotive manufactures have it towards the radiator. Overall, it looks like you had a great score at the train show.

I have a Canadian National Heavy passenger train for my Mehano Mountain Type 4-8-2 bullet nose and my CN Hudson 4-6-4. Makes a gorgeous train and I bought them with metal wheels at 20 bucks CAD a pop (5 of them). I'm also UP fan, I actually have an Athearn Veranda Turbine and I am in the midst of getting running DCC.

On the Chessie it's more of an uncommon loco. It's a SD-35. It's very similar to a GP-35, but it has 3 axle trucks/bogies compared to the standard 2 axle trucks/bogies. I'm wondering if it's DCC chip is just programmed to a different number. It looks like a NCE decoder, Reset code for them should be CV30 to 2. But you can try CV8 to 8. Also on the PA/PB1's if you have a powered PB1 that won't pull as big of train, you might be able to switch the shells out. Depending on if they're built by the same manufacture. The trucks/bogies and fuel tank might not be the proper color, but possibly be able to repaint them or switch them out. Don't know if they pull off like the Athearn or not. Might be able to even swap a PB body for a PA body.

So many things to tell you, but it seems my Model Railroading brothers have taken care of that. The Alco Fb unit as pointed out not to be an EMD F unit. By the looks of the bottom may have been a very old rubber band drive unit from the time of the dinosaurs. Only got a quick look though. You should be able to take the truck frames off the Alco PA's and switch between the B & O and the UP. Save you from painting. Track work always a pain. I wish we had more train shows around my area. What a great score.... it looks like the new track is coming sooner than later.... with the powered B unit can you just swap the body cover over from one to another hoping that they are the same manufacturer.... I hate those horn hook couplers also... I have several pieces of rolling stock with them on and I plan to change them over... So a lube and check over of all the stuff you purchased and you should have a nice new assortment of Loco's. It is also very amazing to me, the different colour variations of the same colour when shown like this for the same rolling stock that should be exactly the same colour.... it is crazy that different companies can't get the same colours when making these things........

Not sure what length your cars are, but the AHM/Rivorassi/IHC cars represent an 85 foot car. The Athearn Blue Box PA1 is a good loco, but may not be heavy enough without the added weights added in the late 90's 00's. Going with multiple powered units is a great idea, spreading the tractive force over more contact area works😊.

If you are running Transition area diesel locos 1930's to early 1950's you had an Engineer in the cab, some times Firemen(holed over from steam) or brakeman in cab, on freight you would have brakeman and or conductor in caboose. For Passenger you could have 2 Engineers in cab and Brakman in the Dormitory car. Conductor would be in fancy uniform in the passenger cars with the passenger service crew. In modern locos it is down to just the Engineer, and Conductor in the cab.
