Garry Says - Unusual Instruments, Part 3 - Log Drums

Watch founder and owner of Woodstock Chimes (www.chimes.com/) and professional percussionist Garry Kvistad demonstrate unusual instruments.
Today Garry is playing some of the log drums in his collection. Log drums are wooden boxes with carved tongues. Other names for Log Drums are Slit Drums or Teponaztli. Even though they have "drum" in their name, technically, they are not drums. Rather they are Idiophones, musical instruments that create sound by the instrument as a whole vibrating.
This type of musical instrument are universally used in ethnic music as well as in contemporary Western music.

Hi gdruzzi, These are not part of our line of products; they are in Garry's personal collection. There are many sources for log drums online, though. Just Google "purchase log drums" and quite a few choices will come up. Hope that helps!

At least one of the drums in the video was made by Garry himself, and he's had the opportunity to add to his collection of unusual instruments over decades of touring and involvement in the world of percussion, so some of the instruments are hard to find today.
