Woodturning a Roman Olivewood Box

Olivewood is an absolute pleasure to turn, and these two chunks from areas near Rome, Italy, proved that to be true once again. Please enjoy the making of this lidded box!

There you are! I've been missing your videos. Glad to know all is well. As an Army vet, I did a term paper last year asking why veterans fail to seek help for PTSD. In my studies, I found that the numbers seem to be better than 22 a day. However it's the way they take the numbers. The actual number of daily veteran suicides is higher than 22 a day. 1 a day is too many. I pray every day for those who are supposed to help us reintegrate into society but turn us away instead to leave so many without hope or help. I pray that there will be positive change in those organizations.

You're so right, one is too many... I'm glad you did a term paper on the issue, no doubt there's a lot that goes into the failure to ask for help, be it a decision or a consequence of a number of factors. Counseling needs to start in service, post combat, and I believe it needs to start at the small unit level where the men that experience the traumas together actually discuss it in an after action type debrief, but with the brotherly support there rather than a chain of command style mandate. But that's all what should have happened... we have a lot of veterans feeling stranded in their own experiences now, or hurting, or even embarrassed...yep, but they shouldn't. ever. Two warriors on the same patrol can end the mission with completely different perspectives. We have to take better care of each other... but even then there are no guarantees, but we must start somewhere. We must reach out or make ourselves available somehow. Just my hasty opinions/thoughts/experience. God bless, brother.

I was looking for videos from you last night, just to n case I may have missed one from last Friday. That is awesome box, I may have to try some olive wood one day. I will keep you in my prayers, I have two cousins who served also and very proud of their service. I hurt my back in April, so I wound up taking a early retirement. Stay safe, GOD loves you. That's why his Son came back on the third day so that we may be saved.

Beautiful. I have made olivewood pens from the Holy Land for my Christian brothers and sister's. As olive live for so long maybe the wood was from a tree that our Savior sat under. Thank you for your service and keep up with your creative work

In combat that the Marines leave no Marine behind no matter what, it is a shame that doesn't carry forward to when they are no longer on active duty. It seems that too many of us who have served are left to fall between the cracks and are lost. I am lucky as I have my family for support but not everyone is.
