Another nice project with thanks again to Robin for the pleasing background music selection. BTW, I watched your rolling pin video from 10 years ago. Your equipment was much more modest but same great results. Proof that it’s the artist and not the tools. Although the tools are cool. You haven’t aged a day in the last ten years.

Hi Carl. I have been watching your videos for several years now. I really appreciate the quality and ease of you turning. I noticed that you are using a Robust lathe. I want to upgrade my lathe and am thinking about the sweet 16 - 110 volt Robust lathe. I need one with slower speeds and reverse. I have a question, I believe that the sweet 16 turns as low as 60 rpm, is that slow enough to resin to a milled sink while it's turning on the lathe? I know that the Powermatic turns as slow as 40 rpm. Thanks for the input!

Hi Carl . . . great and impressive demo . . . My question . . . you moved over the CA glue technique quite quickly and I'm wondering about the "over spill", i.e. where the CA glue spread onto and outside the beads and how you cleaned that up . . . obviously the stain left behind would show up through your finish, right?
@CarlJacobson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Dale!! I was really careful when I put it on. It did stain a little bit on the inside edge of one lip, but the oil blended it all together and you can't see it.
@richardmabie37513 жыл бұрын
Hi Carl, I have a new question today. The Doctors Woodshop Finishing Oil looks like an easy way to finish a project. Does it dry or does it have an oily feel. Does it wear or fade down in time and does handling it leave residue on your fingers? Can you put a glossy acrylic finish on it? the inlayed strip was great on the vase! Thank you, Richard Mabie
@CarlJacobson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Richard!! The Walnut oil will completely cure and leave no residue. You can apply friction polish over the top of it, but I'm not sure about acrylic finishes. It is an oil finish so it may need to be reapplied eventually, but it holds up very well.
@LarryDMitchell3 жыл бұрын
Nice work. I've seen the inlay at my local Woodcraft store and glad you featured it here. I've used my parting tool for some detail work before but never thought to use the beading tool as an accent to the grove. I'm going to incorporate that into one of my next turnings because I think it just adds class to the design. A question though. For the CA over the inlay...did you spray accelerator on that or just let it dry naturally?
@CarlJacobson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much Larry! I really think it adds a nice touch too. I just let the CA dry naturally sometime the accelerator can make it look a little white if you put on to much.

Hi Carl, I'm doing a turquoise stone inlay on a piece of Osage orange turning, can you recommend what type of finish I should use because of the stone? Thank you, Phil PS searched the web and found '0'
@CarlJacobson2 жыл бұрын
Hey Phil, I would go with a CA finish. You can build it up to cover up the jagged edges of the stone. Good luck :)

Is starbond just glue? Does it run at all or lump?
@CarlJacobson3 жыл бұрын
Starbond is a Cyanoacrylate glue. Yes it will run like regular glue if you put to much on. It's a fast drying glue, that's why it's good for projects like this.
@tomcoker98823 жыл бұрын
Neat idea for an inlay Carl. I like the oil finish. How many coats did you use or just when you wet sanded? Thanks. Cheers, Tom

Please excuse me for sounding stupid but I don't understand what the piece is for. I think it's beautiful but I don't understand the small hole at the top. Is it a vase for a flower or maybe a candle? I'm sorry, I don't understand. I think this is the first time I can't figure out what the piece is.
@CarlJacobson3 жыл бұрын
Thank you Sandi! It's a vase, or also known as a hollow form. You can put dried flowers in it too, but it's mostly used for display :)
