New sub here. Love how you leave in the mistakes. That's how we all learn. The channels that work on a project that takes the minimum amount of time and everything goes perfectly are of little use to me as a complete noob. Channels like this that leave in the "here's what went wrong, why it went wrong, and how to fix it" are the best! I'm looking forward to binge watching your library.

I love your video maybe I could help you out with your finishing questions if you like nitrocellulose sanding sealer you don't need a special brand just take some lacquer thin it to the consistency that you like now you have nitrocellulose sanding sealer and it's much cheaper. And when it comes to wax wax is a finishers worst nightmare never try and use it under anything it will cause bonding problems hit me up anytime with finishing questions I am a retired finish chemist and love talking about the subject keep up the good work
@TheKlondikeCraftsman3 жыл бұрын
I appreciate that David, I bought some Behlans vinyl sealer which, I was told, was nitrocellulose. It is very thick. I can use lacquer thinner in that as well? I appreciate you watching!
@davidhartshorn17633 жыл бұрын
@@TheKlondikeCraftsman as long as it is nitrocellulose you can thin it all you want with lacquer thinner. Some manufacturers confuse the subject by calling their products water-based lacquer it can't be water base and lacquer it has to be one or the other if it looks like low fat milk in the can it is water base and would be thinned with water I personally do not like commercial sanding sealers they typically put stearates in them to make them sand easier and they do sand very easily the problem is the stearates create a weak link and your top coat may not Bond properly I highly recommend you just thin some nitrocellulose lacquer for your sanding sealer it's cheaper and causes Less Problems

As a beginner why did you leave the center in the bowl when rough turning. All I have seen was to do the inside of the bowl about 1 inch in thickness. First time I saw that finish on any wood, good job.
@TheKlondikeCraftsman3 жыл бұрын
Hey Greg, I actually bought that, and MANY blanks all rough turned and kiln dried. They were done on a metal lathe which is way less strain on the body and much faster. The intention with leaving the center in was to make a nut dish where you either hollow out that center to make a place for a nut cracker and pick or mount one of those screw type nut crackers. Not a lot of demand for those anymore so I made a regular bowl. Thanks for watching!
