This is one of the first examples of wood turning I watched on YT & got me started as a have a go hero on a basic lathe. Just popped in recommended views.

I like to watch some of your old videos sometimes. Epoxy was your thing always! I think we startet on KZbin to the same time. I am really happy with you for your success. I actually have 3600 subscribers and it is really hard to get more. Therefore I am really glad that you made it. All the best and keep on turning!

Another good one, Andy. I was surprised by how well the oak and wenge complemented each other, so I'm going to steal that pairing for some project :-) Clyde

From the thumbnail, I thought you'd drill holes in the piece and plug them with the pattern. Cool design either way :)

Love it! If you did it again, would you use the same color resin? I think white resin could look cool and make the contrasting woods “pop.”

Great design! Just a note on safety, I see you using that spindle roughing gouge for bowl turning, and that's extremely dangerous. You should never ever use a spindle roughing gouge on any end grain wood. Look up some info on it, there's some videos on YT talking about them. Happy turning!
@AndyPhillipWoodturning7 жыл бұрын
Cheers Peter ..
@clydeulmer44847 жыл бұрын
I agree with you, Peter -- but only in the case where a SRG is being used on the inside of a bowl. Here, the extension of the gouge over the toolrest combines with the propensity of the SRG wings to catch on a concave surface to create the typical prescription for disaster. Used as Andy did -- a shear angle pull cut with toolrest tucked close to the convex outer surface -- the SRG is no more likely than any other tool to cause harm. Is it the *best* tool to use here? Nah... In any case, that's not a SRG. It's the Continental pattern forged spindle gouge that comes with the Benjamin's Best and other packaged gouge sets. Clyde

Nice part, very cool design. How long does it take for the epoxy resin to harden? I have never worked with epoxy resin.

Thanks ..It depends what make you use .. the one I used in the video set over night but the one I use now takes 3-4 days ..

@mfcpwoodworking22697 жыл бұрын
Did you consider drilling round holes to glue your bicoloured into? You wouldn't have needed to use any resin. Just a thought.
@AndyPhillipWoodturning7 жыл бұрын
I wanted the resin to add a bit of colour to it ..that didn't quite work though lol ..cheers

Nice project overall, not sure I like the brown resin, kinda seems off balance to me with the little dowels, but nonetheless alot left to learn on my parts. Fan of the project itself, just not of the resin color.

Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Do you think clear resin would have been better?
@AndyPhillipWoodturning7 жыл бұрын
Thanks Margery ... yes I do ... I put in description that I used wrong colour it's too dark and doesn't show off the wenge discs very well ..oh well must do better next time lol ... thanks for watching
@justiceblackwolf3697 жыл бұрын
beautiful work, think it would have been a lil cleaner looking if you drilled out circles to put your accent pieces in place instead of the resin, but great job
@AndyPhillipWoodturning7 жыл бұрын
Thankyou .. your probably right , the resin was supposed to highlight the discs but blended to much with the wenge .. bad colour choice ..

While watching the video, "Half n Half" I noticed that you used a Spindle Roughing Gouge on the bowl. You should "never ever" use a spindle roughing gouge on end grain. It can break and impale you. You should take down this video for safety reasons.
@AndyPhillipWoodturning7 жыл бұрын
