I’m not a wood turner but I sure do enjoy watching your videos. The Color and form of this piece is fantastic. I’m curious as to how dry the timber is before you turn it. Some of the pieces look covered in green moss so they can’t be too dry. Once turned how do you keep them from not splitting and cracking?
@IanMacWoodturning Жыл бұрын
Hey Mike! Thanks for your comment mate, truthfully some pieces from videos can crack and warp but certain types of wood seem to hold their shape perfectly like this pine & Leylandii. We’re looking at building/buying a wood kiln shortly so it shouldn’t be an issue in the future.
@barryerdman6285 Жыл бұрын
Really nice work. Like the method you used to hollow it out. I would have liked to see the piece transform in the lathe in the stopped footage as the branches disappeared. I am surprised that the pine smoothed out so well being so knotty. Great work.

I have some questions for you: why do you use dipoxy? Is it because you like it better as a finish to your piece, or does help against warping and cracking when the wood dries? These might be absolutely silly questions, keep in mind I am an absolute noob at this !
@IanMacWoodturning Жыл бұрын
I used Dipoxy just for a clear finish on this one! It definitely can be useful for stiffing up wood though and helping prevent cracking.
