I really enjoy making these three piece lidded boxes, it's a great way to use up scrap wood in the shop too. I did some wood piecing on these lidded boxes after I turned them on the lathe. It's a great way to add some detail to a basic lidded box.

Thank you Carl for another great project. I thought the hole-making process would have taken a lot longer. I have an under-used Dremel which I must utilise more often. So far I've used it mainly for a little dental work which I do on the side to earn a few extra bucks - nothing too serious - just drilling our cavities etc. I'm glad you like Yorkshire Grit. I've been using it for about a month and it's one of the best additions to turning I've seen for a long time. Best wishes, Alan.

Very nice box's Carl. I have done similar box's but used a wood burner with a pencil like tip to do the piercings with probably same outcome. You mentioned printing out some templates,, The possibilities are endless there on what a person could come up with. Some have mentioned lights inside, just drill holes of different sizes all way though. and maybe use a tea light. Awesome work! Love watching your vids!

That's lovely. I understand your problem with trying to keep a random 'pattern'... see, I can't even type it. There's a lady called Yvonne Arlott who does lace-type piercing and she has to keep a pattern balanced around, say, the rim of a plate or the surface of an egg. She is extremely skillful. I don't see any videos on here but her website is well worth looking at. Best Wishes, Brendan.

Fantastic video! Always enjoy your work and have made many of your projects - thanks. Will be ordering Yorkshire Grit later today. Interesting... don't think I've ever pierced before hollowing before. You ever try a dental drill for piercing Carl?

Thanks Jimmy! I use the Woodriver fostner bit. I think you can resharpen any bit though with a diamond sharpening card.

You should also try the matching Hampshire gloss. You won't go back best finished ever used and found don't lose it gloss like the shellawax or beeswax so quickly. Hampshire has won me for an awesome finish
