I am 57 and I get the privilege of taking care of my mom in her 80s. She had never seen anything like this before. It was fun watching her stand there mesmerized, and when it got the end and she saw the end result, she exclaimed, "Oh WOW" with the look of a little kid that made an exciting discovery. Thank you for giving us that moment.

@@HarrySmithWoodturning After looking back at the original I would say that my preference would be the latest one, I feel it has more character but that is very subjective, everyone has a different perspective on artistic work which is a good thing. If we all liked the same things in life it could be very boring, they say that variety is the spice of life, let us keep it that way. Keep up the good work Harry.👍

@@HarrySmithWoodturning Loved them both, neither were preferable above the other. Both had the beauty brought out, showing the beautiful grains and I love the rough areas to as a combination of smooth, rough undulating grains gives an artistic finish. And then the coin underneath with your name on is a gorgeous touch and adds to it. It would be hard not to purchase something like that (both). 🙂

Fun fact: the stroboscopic effect can be extremely dangerous in settings where heavy spinning machinery is being used. To counteract the stoboscopic effect created by flickering light sources (florescent light fixtures, for example) the bulbs of the fixture, or the fixtures side by side, may need to be split to separate phases to eliminate the risk of the RPM on the machine matching the Hz of the light source. The stoboscopic effect can be seen in several points of this video where the speed of the lathe matches (or almost matches) the frame rate of the camera - making it appear that the lathe is not spinning, or spinning much slower than it actually is. Fun stuff 😁👍

I read once that those nodded areas, [its like our body making a scab over a damaged spot], are ways the tree self heals a damaged area. They were searched for by craftsman in making water tight containers because their abstract fibers growth makes it strong.❤

It is always interesting to see the effect that a camera's frame rate and the differing speeds of an object rotating cause. I saw a video of a large 4 blade helicopter hovering above 100 feet above the ground and for a while the rotor speed was at the perfect speed so that it looked like the rotor was not turning and the blades were standing still while the helicopter floated in the air.
