Thank you, not only do I now know how to sharpen my carbides, but after watching this, I need to work on my cutting angles. I now have a lathe and have turned about 10 pieces. Well 10 reasonably successful pieces anyways. The first several pieces kind of blew apart.

Great information there glen. Can i check am guessing you get 4 turns with your square before sharpen and obviously 2 with the detail and am guessing 2 or 3 with the circles 👍🏴
@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca53088 ай бұрын
Thanks Michael. I've been using the same carbides since we started the channel. Not even turned most of them. If you use them to cut, you won't need to even turn them. But yes, the square has 4 sides, yes the Detail two times and the circle about 3-4 times, depends on if you roll the chisel etc.

@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 no worries thanks well am binge watching your channel and all your carbide videos to suck as much knowledge out them as I can. Granted relatively new to turning but hopefully with quality tools and quality teaching through your KZbin videos should make it as a half decent turner one day. 👍🏴

@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 sweet thanks I'm subbed up so should get notification of it. Will deffo jump ahead and watch tomorrow if you're recommending it's a good one. My lathe isn't massive but think for what I get wood wise and what I can do should be fine

My question is about detail cutters. I live in California USA and your web site says you don't ship over seas. I just got my 3 piece set from over here. I believe your detail cutters have a bevel on the two sides and one on the tip. Do they have a name so I can search over here for one? I found your site after I ordered my carbide tool set. You make so much sense of riding the bevel to make cuts not scrapes. The detail tool that came with my set has a knife edge on the carbide tip as well as the holder. (maybe that is normally how it is done). Is there a way of putting a bevel on my detail tip or would that muck everything up? I am going to try and contact the people that I got my set from to see if they have a detailed cutter with a bevel on the tip to do push cuts. Also I can see how you can measure square and round cutters but how do they measure detail cutters? When I look at pictures they are shown from above only no side shots to check the bevel. I am starting your 3 tool carbide series again not that I have some tools. Watch rewind, watch rewind ha ha. I think KZbin has a way of slowing down the videos so you watch for more details. Thanks again for all your videos. Bruce Ferguson

You would have to contact your seller to see if they do the Detail cutter like mine. I can't say whether they will fit your tool. They fit mine. You would have to ask the manufacturer whether you can change the tool. I can not advise you of this. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Move to the UK or if you holiday here, then you can order.
@fergusrb9 ай бұрын
Oh I can see why you wouldn’t advise with all the laws now days. Guess I will have to fire up the Lear jet and hop over there for a day or so. Wait the climate activists will be on me for creating too much CO2 because I wanted a carbide cutter. I am 77 and don’t give sh$&t anymore. I will check with the manufacturer. Thanks for letting me have some fun with you. Till next time.

What was that diamond sharpening piece you have? Is it a diamond card file? I couldn't quite understand what you said when you named it. Also, I see that you do not ship overseas, but I live in Australia, do you have any recommendations for reputable dealers where to get a diamond card file that is as big as yours? Penn State Industries looks like it has one, but it looks tiny.
@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca53083 ай бұрын
Yes, diamond sharpening card file. You can try to order one from Ebay. 600 grit.
Nice one Glen. Just watched your vid on sharpening. What happened to the face shield? All it it takes is one little catch as you know.😢. Regards

Thanks for this Was wondering how to do the av carbides. Surprised you don,t to sell make a metal mandrel to sharpen them I have a metal bar which i use for the normal carbides It has a screw which you can adjust to the length/depth of the carbides It apples even pressure across the carbides ( can't remember where I got it from ) But thanks for this
@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca530811 ай бұрын
No I'm not not interested in making metal versions. It's so easy to make with wood. Anyone can make them.
