Here is an interesting concept to make a piece from square slices of wood.
In this video I use Sipo, Elm and Carnauba Wax for the finish.

Amazing, simply amazing. For dried flowers, this is the best vase ever! It would also make an incredible lit lamp base! Like a marble sculpter said, the statue is already there, I just chip off the extra. You ARE a master of your craft!

Have you considered putting a dimmable soft white LED inside, hanging it from the ceiling, and making a "Groovy" mood light out of it? You could even put a color-changeable one in it for parties and whatnot.

Just a tip. You could use a Q-tip, folded in half to stain all those little holes.

Love the ambition on this piece. I'll bet you were checking your glue joints pretty thoroughly! One bad joint, and this whole thing would get chucked from the lathe in quite a dangerous fashion... Stunning results, though!
