Thanks, Glenn, for answering my query on sanding paste, and incidentally, the reason for using sanding sealer. The instructions that come with these sort of products always say 'how' to use them, but rarely explain 'why'. After watching your last couple of videos I am casting covetous eyes on my pal's open fire woodpile. You really proved your points about how to achieve fine finishes, and I do hope you keep that very pretty little bowl - which I'm sure Lisa won't let you put on the fire. May I also add what a splendid job Lisa does with the camera, always getting us the best view by constantly changing position and zoom, as you caress the wood to its final shape. Did she have professional training - or is it just natural talent?
@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 Жыл бұрын
Thanks Don. Yes, Liza did make me keep the bowl. 🤪I thought she would. Don, it's pure luck she can video. Lol. No honestly, she is doing a good job. I had made an arm to hold the camera, so I could film myself turning, but it's awkward as I can't see if I am getting in the way of the camera sometimes. Liza finds using the tripod better as she can follow me and get in closer to get those close up shots.

Hiya folks, more proof that the Carbide naysayers are wrong. A beautiful finish can be achieved using "scrapers!" Obviously the right person turning helps a bit so please keep on teaching us. During the video you mentioned a company six hours away that supplies you with wood, i heard it as Stonebase but can't find them on line... Could you please let me have a linnk to them? Thanks and my brand new SCH5 is SUPERB!
@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca53089 ай бұрын
Hi James, it was Styles and Bates but they are closing down at the end of March. Carbide woodturning tools are only scrapers, if they are used as scrapers. Glad you are enjoying using your SCH5.

Very impressive result for such a nasty piece of wood! I might have missed something on a previous video, but what is going on with the sandpaper? You don't seem to be changing grits at all, but the result would suggest otherwise...
@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 Жыл бұрын
Well I do keep telling people how good I am. The proof is visible. My method works. I do say when I'm changing grit. I go from 180 to 320, sometimes to 400. The sanding paste does the rest. It has been mentioned a few times about my sanding. But how can you explain the finish I get?
@Anilm3 Жыл бұрын
@@glennteagleofukwoodcraftca5308 I am even more confused now

@@Anilm3 He has a pre-prepared stack of strips of gradually increasing grit numbers of sandpaper on the lathe bed, and swaps them off camera. They are all the same brand/colour so it appears that he is using just one strip for the whole process prior to the sanding paste.

did you have to do any grinding on your carbide tool holders to allow you to "ride the bevel" or was there enough clearance on the original handles?
