What is the difference between a vowel and a consonant in English?
To avoid giving an intense linguistic definition, in this English lesson I try to keep my explanation as simple as possible.
I look at:
What is a vowel?
What is a consonant?
How is a vowel different from a consonant?

Well, I'm nearly 59 and a native English speaker. Today I learnt why a vowel is a vowel and a consonant is a consonant. Thanks so much. The amazing thing about trying to learn another language is that it inevitably requires you to learn more about your own. It's great fun.

Interesting that you both used the word "learnt" as opposed to "learned'

And for example, the consonant M, when you smell something good and yummy, you say, "Mmmm..." after you eat your food, it claims to be a consonant sound that involves the restriction by blocking the flow of air through your mouth and/or throat partially.

For example, when I used a cover of a song, I sing "Oooohhh..." and/or, "Aaaahhh..." - they both produce different vowel sounds, which is why you haven't yet restricted the movement of air from your lungs through the mouth, so that way, they produce the vowel sound - which is unique.

This was great. Thanks. Makes more sense now as how you can apply this to EQ audio sounds. Specifically the Vowels because of the free flow of air. Each part of the frequency spectrum or band gets a vowel but I didn't understand why until I saw this. I had learned that the highest note the male voice can sing in A and the lowest is O. Another reason why we say Om in meditation. Because it builds your base/bass lol. Another reason why I believe we should be writing from right to left but that's another discussion.
