For those looking for an inexpensive oboe as a doubling instrument, the comments made about Jim Mason's retooled Asian oboes should be considered. He's done a great job with them, essentially creating a pro horn that sounds and feels respectable...but at a student model cost.

Good information. I bought my Oboe (Loree) off eBay about 15 years ago. Great purchase, and a great instrument.

I rented a loree in hs, omg, it was such a beautiful sound. Now I have a plastic Selmer. Granted I don't play the way I used to but the Selmer just doesn't compare

Speaking of budget, I got my Loree AK series oboe for $650. Ring System instrument, but actually makes playing easier. I don't need an Ab-Bb trill, articulated G sharp is much more useful, and a left F really isn't that necessary. Cor Anglais, I unfortunately don't own, but I am always searching for a completely trashed instrument to restore. Anybody with an old school instrument, or antique piece, I'd live to buy.
