This style of folding chair reminds me of all the holidays my family has celebrated over the years. My aunt and uncle who host Christmas, Thanksgiving, and some other holidays got about 15 of these at least 2-3 decades ago from one or more churches he preached for

Funny because I grew up in Denmark in the 1960's and this exact style of chair, in adult size, was one of the most common spare chairs people would keep in the garage, a spare room, basement or the likes, for when having parties and needing extra chairs. They were typically made from beech wood and some versions even had a slim 'tongue and grove' carved into the length of the main rail/leg so they stacked nicely against each other when folded up. Because they were made from quality wood they were extremely strong and therefore loads of them still exist today.

I've moved around endless numbers of the adult sized version of that chair. Exact same look. Back in the 80s and 90s everyone had a pile of those handy for when you had extra guests. For larger parties it was far from uncommon to borrow a pile from several nearby neighbors.

Awesome video! Got a trick for you with that bending the ruler to trace a curve thing. Take the appropriate length quick grip clamp and put your straight edge in the jaws. Then when you slowly squeeze the handle you change the bend of the arc. You can do it one handed so you can trace it yourself.

Fun video man! You crack me up! The subtle things like the boards coming off the table saw, then the push block... lol, nice touch. NO JOKE chairs are hard! Watching the brace for impact when you sat in it... priceless, I know the EXACT feeling! I built a tiny dining room style chair for my youngest son recently and I still cringe and get ready for tiny bon fire every time I see him leaning in it!

Got a question as someone that isnt a wood worker, why *was* it so hard to build it? Wouldnt it be just a question of scaling up each measurements from the child chair and transfering them down to the right spot on the larger parts?

Love the chair! Great build! I will say, I was looking forward to seeing you reuse parts of the chair like you have used parts of the thrifted version in your past videos. No shade and not taking away from the absolutely great work. Just would of been nice. You could of used the old chair for the slats and back support or something. Again great build!

The most impressive part, or craziest, is that you went at it by building on the fly rather than designing in some kind of SAD software first. Edit: LOL, wrote this before you made the software design comment. Also the reference design from 1966 seems ironic because it looks like the designer of that chair was going for a folding chair design without it actually being a folding chair.

Dig it. FYI, there’s a high pitched buzzing in the left channel. It’s faint. I didn’t hear it on my TV but I switched to headphones for the second half of the video. You might not have even noticed it in the edit. Anyway, keep up the great work! Also, nice use of MC Hammer for Whoomp There it Is. 😂 The subtle jokes like that and not grabbing the wood are great touches.

This project greatly interests me because I have an old folding table that came with a pair of matching folding chairs that fit inside a cavity in the table frame. A relative gave me the table but kept the chairs for some reason. I seriously would not mind trying to make chairs for it down the line. I don't have the tools for it yet, but some day.

Today I learned your wood shop is carpeted! Definitely see the down side of using an angle grinder on carpet. But does using wood tools and all the saw dust not as well? While the carpet had to be great for standing on and echoes for camera, hie do you manage to not just be walking on and gringing in, saw dust constantly?
