I have the exact same saw and can't even begin to express how invaluable your video is. Thank you.

Very thorough explanation with many things taken into consideration. I will use this as a reference when I install my router lift into my table saw extension.

I have watched a ton of videos on this subject because I'm about to install a lift on my tabletop I've worked very hard to laminate and trim in mahogany. this is by far the best I have seen yet thankyou.

This is a great video. I"m actually looking at buying that exact router lift...I love the dual lift mechanisms. The 1/2" spacers inside the template is a fantastic idea.

Thoroughly delightful video. Love your passion! Also, the 1/2” spacers inside the main template are a great alternative to a jigsaw. I’ve been dreading that. How did you ensure a snug radius around the router plate at the corners of the recess? I would have liked to see a closeup of the finished corners. Otherwise, thank you for making this terrific resource. I plan to make a new table saw extension table and finish installing the lift next weekend.

I'm pretty sure the router plate corners are specifically machined to fit a template using a 3/4" bit, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to test your template on a few pieces of scrap to see which size bit give you the perfect corner radius.

Nice job Rob....I did similar with a heavy rounter some time ago......I should have reinforced the table top close to the router as the table top did sag from the weight of the router hanging there over time.

Who makes the black table insert that fits into the extension of your table saw that you cut to fit the plate.

Just remember, the router does not care if you are absolutely square. It is a round spindle. The base may look odd but it can be 1” out of square. It will have no affect on the router or the out come of the work. So take the emphasis off of square

Going through a similar project soon... When creating the plywood template to route the insert, instead of using the 3in spacers and have the router slide inside the plywood fences, wouldn't it be easier (or at least possible) to have the plywood fences butted to the actual plate (no 3in spacers) and then use a flush bit with a bearing sliding the router over the plywood fences? That is what I was thinking? I seems that trying to account for the extra space of the router face plate creates opportunities for imprecisions. Thanks!

Dude, at first glance you look exactly like Supreme Court chief justice Roberts. Love the video. But I’m wondering, do you need s as router fence if you can use your unisaw fence? Just wondering if you can do without the router fence?

What type of router is used in this video?

The method I like has less concern about that witness mark and keeping the router facing the edges. The width of your router base is also something needing to be measured and tested with. Instead, just use your template and have the router ride on top of it with a 3/4" bit that has a bearing. A lot of finagling with your template is eliminated and I'd have to think a more successful outcome. Sure you made your method work, but it's not needed.

Template guide mounted to the router could have made this a bit easier.....just have to keep aware of the radius’s..

Your table top looks black. What did you use to get that finish?
@prestonlane62536 жыл бұрын
IIRC, that's the stock color for the table top kit from Delta for the Unisaw.

What model is the table saw?
@prestonlane62536 жыл бұрын
I'm not exactly sure, but it appears to be one of the newer model Delta Unisaws. I would say it is comparable to this model: www.deltamachinery.com/products/table-saws/36-l352-type-2

A "witness mark".... ummm no not necessary. Same distance all the way around the curved portion of the base to the bit. That would really suck if they made routers that way. Stressed about getting it flush to the table? I sure hope in 2018 your base plate has leveling screws. And with that said I am done sounding like an A-hole, lol. Thank you for the video I will probably be using your template techniques.
@veritasestveritas86465 жыл бұрын
It appears his base plate isn't round, which would affect the distance of the bit to the template as the router moves around the edge.

I cringed when I seen you using the flat edge against the template strips. That's a no-no for any router as the slightest spin of the base with throw off your bit location.
