Beautiful piece; you're a very talented sculptor. A tool tip for you - when I was younger and more hot blooded than I am today, I used to keep an old Blackhawk ratchet laying in the middle of the shop to throw instead of the tool that was misbehaving. That kept me from breaking a lot of expensive tools and the ratchet was none the worse for its misfortune. Ironically, I still have the Blackhawk which is now over 100 years old and has increased in value. ;-)

I love the way you've taken Paris art nouveau and added a more organic element. Also reminded me it's time to repair my circular saw base plate that suffered a similar impact to your jigsaw recently - hahaha. Thanks again for showing this inspiring piece.

Really impressive design and execution. I love Art Nouveau. All those gorgeous and sensual curves, lines and volumes. [Firmly resisting the urge to insert a remark here about how that applies to the creator of this piece as well as the piece itself ...]

Is it a beautiful piece of wooden art or is it a beautiful functional sculpture 🤔not sure really but it is rather special, it definitely has character and blends in perfectly with the room, only thing I am not sure on is the multi-coloured lights, that maybe a tad modern for my taste , but of course that is personal preference, once again your design flair is outstanding, it must be great to have this much of a diverse kind of work coming through the shop 👌👌👌👍👍👍🇦🇺
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
I agree with this one. I'm not a lover of LEDs in general the quality of light is modern, that is good way to put it. I don't hate them on this piece, but I do also prefer different styles of lighting.

Nicely done! I love projects like this - making them and watching them. Maybe if you put some of that same plastic around the vent too then the light will diffuse between the two sheets of plastic and eliminate that shadow altogether.

Beautiful result and the sculpting was amazing. Some epoxies get a little soft with heat, don't know about Marine grade though. Hopefully those LED lights will run cool enough. Fascinating stuff on the walls, such an interesting room.

French curve templates are really under appreciated! LOL..poor jigsaw...but GREAT RESULTS! Moi would have used LED strips on the pipe, that way it would not have the shadow, but would require some soldering and such. The LED floods do the trick though!
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
I actually have used the led strip lights in the past and I had some for this, but they just weren't bright enough. The flood lights pack a punch.

Nice to knownsomeone else chucks a tool now and again! Did you get into a point on this project where you said what the heck am i doing??
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
I get to that point on every project haha. For stuff like this it's more technical issues that I worry about. I really couldn't know how this was going to look with the light, and even it the light would work until the carving was done and I started playing with it. So in the back of head until I got to that point I was wondering if I was just spending a lot of time a huge oak paper weight.

Nice work. I'm impressed. I don't know if these are on your radar, but Iwasaki files are something you might find useful tools. I can attest that they are a pleasure to use and you barely need to do any sanding after use.
@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks3 жыл бұрын
Those are not on my radar. I'll have to check them out. I have pretty low end files now and wouldn't mind an upgrade.

@@HoneyBadgerWoodWorks If it helps, I got mine from Crimson Guitars. They import them to the UK and put really good handles on them. Not sure if that's so useful as you are in the USA ... I am not a luthier, but some luthiery tools are great for general woodworking and fine woodwork. I can definitely recommend the Shinto saw rasp. Too few people know about those.
