"Whenever you make a mark with your pencil always put your pencil were you need the mark and then move the square to the pencil". My dad told me this 20 years ago, and my dad told me my grandpa told him that 30 years prior to my dad telling me. And now I'm watching your channel and you are telling the world. Man, this warms my heart to a degree that cant be measured in feet, inches or mm. ;)

I feel like I’ve died and gone to woodworking heaven. Thank you Steve. Just subscribed I wish my woodwork teacher from school Mr Woolley could see the interest I have now. He almost had a heart attack when he saw me hammering a screw. 43 years ago though. Time to start again. This is such a good looking project to start with. For a total newbie to make something lovely is so good. Time to start buying a few tools now. Raise a glass to you Steve and Mr Woolley from BGS in the UK. Cheers

I think it's because woodworking is quite niche. You would never get this kind of thing on TV. However, that's why I like youtube and so forth, there is much more variety.
@Matt-ps9iz
@Matt-ps9iz 7 жыл бұрын
+Woodworking Masterclass I would say it's because the youtube audience tends to be quite young, and prefer more energetic edited content. The attention span in the community is quite short. I want to be clear that I'm not trying to say anything negative about your content. It's excellent and I don't think you should change it, personally I'll be watching it all. However, if you don't already, posting this sort of content to Imgur would probably help a lot, as well as a handful of subreddits dedicated to these sort of things. Even the right Facebook groups would have a very positive response. Those audiences really love this kind of stuff, and tend to be a bit older, a good chuck of them anyway. Hope that's helpful, and thanks for using taking the time to share with us.

Have only just gotten into woodwork, having always been into mechanical engineering (which my tools reflect). At 46 I've just discovered a whole new world and feel like the complete novice that I am. Tenacious as ever though I've decided that I want to master the dovetail. Am practising with old pallet wood and some better pine, before moving on. Steve I love your honest down to Earth manner and the way that you explain things. Am amazed that you haven't got many more views. Good job sir! Greetings from a Brit in Switzerland.
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for you comment and kind words. Just a hint with dovetails you will find it a much more rewarding experience and generate better results if you shy away from pine as a material. If you can try some Birch, Swiss Pear or Sycamore. They will give you much cleaner and crisper joints. Cheers Steve

I want to get into woodworking (especially furniture making) but my only problem is the price of hardwoods. So I was wondering if you just pay the price or if you have any tips to get it cheaper?
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately the answer is yes. There are some ways around it though. I buy in bulk that saves me quite a bit. If you have the machinery you can save by buying rough sawn and dressing it yourself. Downside to that is you often don't get to see the grain pattern until you've purchased it.The one I find most effective is look for shorts (lengths under 900 mm or 3') and end of mill runs that everyone else has picked over and left the scraps. Many times you get them for a good price and can made projects to suit the timber you have instead of having to buy the timber to suit the project you are building. Hope that has given you some food for thought. Cheers Steve

Hi Jeremy, There are a few there and I must say even thought they all get used they are not all necessary to do woodwork. They are a combination of over 30 years of scavenging, scouring and being in the right place at the right time at eBay, garage sales and auctions. You can get by doing serious woodwork with only a #3, #7 and a good block plane. Eloy tour woodworking journey. Cheers Steve

Woodworking Masterclass I think you missed my point. The Americans use a lot of 'exact same size' instead of 'exactly the same size' and they repeatedly explain something and then say, 'I' ll just go ahead an do that'. It's not incorrect but it just annoys my Aussie English. It is great to watch such an experienced bloke showing what he knows. Cheers.

You watered the wood, Why?
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 9 жыл бұрын
+Marcelo Iván Rojas Hernández It had a cup in it, from the heat, so by watering it. It reintroduced moister into the cupped side which has dried out and therefore flattens the board again. Cheers Steve

Woodworking Masterclass I do guitar building (luthiery), but I try to incorporate anything I can learn. Your "spline joint" thing is something I need to try. The wood I use is typically 7-12% humidity, do you think I should try to use that technique? I dont normally have issues with joints separating, but it does happen from time to time, normally a temperature thing I thought, but it might be a humidity thing.
@Woodworkingmasterclass
@Woodworkingmasterclass 9 жыл бұрын
+JgHaverty It does strengthen the joint by adding extra gluing area as well as cross grain adhesion rather than just a butt joint. So give extra resistant to knocks and bumps. Cheers Steve

I am a beginner woodworker and when you said you were going to show us how to make a dovetail jig I got really excited. The as I watched and listened to you "show" us I became very disappointed. You don't "show" us how to do anything. you describe what you are doing but the camera is either so far away or at a horrible angle which doesn't allow us to see anything you do.

I mirror Graham's comment in regards to the quick pace. Other videos I see provides about 10 minutes of instruction in a 50 minute video, "Yawn!". With your method, I feel I get 2 hours of instruction in 30 minute. Danny

This is an exact describtion of my problem here when buying timber for a customer! "What do you need? 2X4?" Or they say everything in mm. While in Germany, the tradies usually order/ talk in cm in timberstores aso. if not in written form.
