5/15/2019 USA Grandpa Bill: Steve, for me it is a joy to see your work, a true expert. I used to work in a mill years ago ( I'm now 71 ) and I'm used to being around real men in real shops doing real work, real experts with real years at work. Watching you, listening to you, has been another education for me and I truly appreciate it. Thank you for your work here, and the highest quality video editing. And, I suspect that if you fed your dog more he then wouldn't steal your MDF. - Grandpa Bill

Steve, fantastic program and vision. I was glad when I saw the comment about changing production teams and slowing down the pace and explanations, because that's the only recommendation I had. You really have a passion and it is giving me the itch to put what you are teaching here to practice. Thanks Steve!

As you say that it's a bit like grass grow. Well I for one like watching a good man work, I can sit and watch it all day...LOL Also love the idea of using the F Clamp as the spindle as a holder. Have to say love the Tool Cabinet in the background.

Thanks for the feedback William. Long story about the cabinet in the background. Great project to work through dark times. All good now though. :) Cheers Steve

Don't worry about the video getting boring because all you do is use spokeshave. Your videos are great the way they are. For example I once watched 43 mins of plaining a plank smooth (Paul Sellers) and didn't get bored. I also watched a 46 min video of a tabletop getting a burl veneer pattern top (Barry Lorimer) and I had to take a break because it got too intense before fitting the last piece :) do what you do like you do and everything's fine.

You’ve made me feel alike I can do this! I’ll need bigger F clamps though and I don’t have a band saw, will a jig saw do? I really am a very green newbie. This videos are brilliant, thank you so much!
@Woodworkingmasterclass6 жыл бұрын
Jigsaw will do but you'll need the longer blades to get through 75mm stock. Thanks for the comment and I'm sure you can do it. Cheers Steve

Did I hear a top bearing squeak? I have a jet saw and my top bearings are talking to me to the point I have two new Timken bearings ready to replace. Just wondering.
@Woodworkingmasterclass4 жыл бұрын
Very likely, the Jet is prone to ripping bearings to bits the other thing consider replacing as the spaces rings, if you have any, that are positioned between the bearings. I have gone though 2 sets of spaces and 5 sets of bearings over time. Still a good machine though. Cheers Steve

What brand is the second rasp - the pointed one?

Excellent stuff. I cannot wait to try making one and I've been looking for an excuse to buy a spoke shave.

I can get some older Stanley models for a good price. Not state of the art but it's what I can afford and the moment. And I will take some pictures. Keep up the good work!
@Woodworkingmasterclass9 жыл бұрын
hedorah99 Nothing wrong with the old Stanley's most of mine are 1930~1940's and some even earlier. Much better than the post 1980's. Have fun tuning them up. Something special about using a plane that you have rescued from the forgotten depths of someone's shed. I've plans to do a video on how to fettle and tune an auction bought plane. Cheers for now Steve.

If a solid piece of wood can't be obtained for each leg, could multiple pieces be glued up to the correct size or would that look bad?
@Woodworkingmasterclass5 жыл бұрын
Hi Daniel, Yes it certainly can. But, bear in mind that different pieces will expand and contract at different rates so you will in all probability get join lines appearing in them and also, depending on the glue used, glue line ridges as well. As far as the look goes, Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Cheers Steve

Hey Steve, I know it's been some time since you posted this series of videos, and while I have not scanned every posting here, you probably are already aware that Lee Valley Tools in Canada now sells a couple of different size bow sanders that you briefly discuss here. Here's their link: www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/hand-tools/sanders/110462-bow-sanders I really have to say I have enjoyed this series of videos (and have watched it a couple of times now), and I hope to dive in with making my first piece of period-style furniture for my wife. Great job.
@Woodworkingmasterclass4 жыл бұрын
Hi John, Yes I think a few companies are now doing bow sanders but they are so easy to make try to make one before you buy. Looking forward to seeing you Table as it develops. Cheers Steve

Hi James, Thanks for the feedback and comments most appreciated. The story behind the apron is I used to make them and when I started the TV show that was the last one I had left. Many thanks, I have been researching "sellers woodworking" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Denia Diyictoria Bulldozer - (do a google search ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my work buddy got cool success with it.
