Wes, I wanted to thank you for putting this video up. I used it to build my own version with some cabinet style drawers beneath it, with room for a shopvac. Your video and instruction style are excellent! Please keep the shop improvement videos coming. Thanks again!

I did what someone else suggested. Put the centerpiece flat on the floor. Put the square frame on top and trace the line. Then go to my miter saw and move it over until I lined them up

For those wondering about the 23.5 degree angle, it is difficult to explain without an illustration so here is a hint. Neatly draw a rectangular support with a diagonal support with width w. There are two important angles, the angle of the hypotenuse between the two inner corners (theta1) and the angle that Wes is referring to (theta2). The law of sines is required to find the difference between the two angles. Once you know the difference you can find theta2 since theta1 is easily calculated using basic trig. I spent a few hours figuring it this out cause I want to make this same table since my current bench is worthless as an assembly table. I want to make the leg support out of fully squared up poplar and I didn’t want to guess multiple times with test pieces to get the correct angle.

Hi Wes, when you screwed the particle board layer to the melamine layer how did you do the pre drilling? Did you pre drill only through the particle board only or did you pre drill through both layers?
@WoodworkingWithWes
@WoodworkingWithWes 12 күн бұрын
Hi...the grabber screws that I use are self-tapping so not necessary to drill a hole in particle board. Thanks for watching, Wes

I will adapt this for a photographers printer table. The printer makes up to 20 inch by X so it’s way larger and heavier. A table that will not wiggle and rock would be ideal. I just want a bottom that is like a sled so it can sit on carpet but be movable if needed.

@ MichaelGlennglennimages one option you might want to consider that is very inexpensive and effective is carpet sliders for furniture, works for me.

Nice video. I have a stupid question. I am building a table that will be 36x48 when done. This will make the cross pieces shorter. How did you measure the length and angle of the cross piece? It wasn't explained how you got the 23.5 deg and length.
@66limelight
@66limelight Жыл бұрын
You can easily find the angle of that cross piece simply by marking it. Once you have the rectangular sections made, get them perfectly square and then clamp them to the table. Then lay the 2x4 cross piece on top at opposing corners. Now you'll be able to mark the cross piece on each side and draw a line and you have your angle. Even better, use an angle or bevel gauge and match it up with your miter saw and you'll be in business. Cut the cross piece about an 1/8" longer than what you need so you have a little play room to fine tune the fit.

Melamine is good before it gets dinged up. I'm leery of it for that reason. I like: formica or hardwood plywood with shellac. I'm in the early planning stages here, so I have no experience to back me up....... By the way, the diagonal braces are simple genius.

Not quite drawers underneath.. What about some simple 'roll-out' boxes? Either use a vacuum to clean them out or drill small (3/4) holes for sawdust to fall through (Just don't store small tools in the boxes!)

Great looking work table, Wes. I wouldn't get too crazy with the weight on the table though. The manufacturers/distributors of these cheap casters GREATLY over estimate the capacity.
