His intonation in the upper register is godawful. If he listened more to Sidney Bechet, whom he says he idolizes, he’d play in the lower register and learn to produce a rounded tone for a change. As it is, he sounds as if he’s playing a mouthpiece with no clarinet attached to it.

@cattycorner: His playing reminds me of a line Eddie Condon (or his ghostwriter) used in reference to another clarinetist: “He can really make the clarinet talk-and when it does, it says ‘Please put me back in my case!’”

He could once play well..but reed and brass instuments in particular require keeping your 'chops' in shape...regular practice is essential.
