Josh Brolin is the most enchanting human being alive. And seeing the three of you together, enjoying and loving each other, in the most authentic ways, is such a gift. I will visit and revisit this 48 minutes again and again - whenever I am feeling sad or when I want to be reminded that truly good and worthy men do exist in this world.

I drank while watching this and I hate that I abuse alcohol. I don't drink everyday and I don't feel sick when I don't drink but I hate how my mind races when I'm sober. I need to like myself better. I'm not a bad guy, I don't know.
@skateandgeekout
@skateandgeekout 4 ай бұрын
@@sean-ew2qv the alcoholic mind is always looking for reasons to drink, you're feeling anxious, you're feeling depressed, stressed, hopeless, whatever it is your going to stay in those feelings to help keep you drinking. If you want to get sober and deal with your feelings, insecurity, trauma, whatever it may be your mind is going to do everything it can to talk you into drinking especially during the first weeks but if you keep yourself busy with other things, force yourself to deal with any problems you may have, eventually you'll start to feel confident that you can leave the booze behind, and with the strength your mind will stop being as negative or hard on yourself bc it's not going to work like it used to to lead you to drinking, you'll just start feeling better and being able to enjoy life naturally.

This is becoming one of the best podcast around right now. It’s soo thoughtful. Ted & Woody are great at making the atmosphere relaxed and it enables a feeling of trust within the room. It allows the guest to open up without being prodded and poked, and it’s just so good to both watch and listen. Every episode is genuine. Love it.

These 3 human beings have been in roles where after the movie/series is over, a depression sets in to the viewer. I never thought how much harder that would be as an actor who has to part from their ‘family’ after filming ends. Thank you all for the stories you help tell 🙏🏼. Good to see Woody again, this podcast has me watching Cheers every night before I go to bed lately as a form of comfort viewing ❤

@@peezdocJosh Brolin in men in black 3 was my first movie seeing him in and I thought he was so great at that character because I loved men in black growing up. I saw 1 in theaters around my birthday, which was kind of a tradition (we saw inspector gadget and wild wild west because they came out ON MY BIRTHDAY but different years. My dad and I went and saw x2: xmen united because nobody else wanted to and our birthdays are literally two days apart.) Everything about Brolin playing that character was perfect. Wahlberg, although I think he plays a great mark Walberg like character, could never pull that off. I even think he was too mark Wahlberg to play Sullivan from uncharted. Josh Brolin would have been a better Sullivan, especially with the mustache, which I KNOW he could grow.

Quick story. Ted and Josh’s dad James made an early 80’s, made for TV movie for NBC called Cowboy. It was filmed in my hometown of Maypearl Texas (about 30-40 miles southwest of Dallas) population at the time was a whole 460 people. I was about 9-10 years old and remember it well. Had some star players in it, Randy Quaid, Annie Potts amongst a few other smaller names. I just remember it was so cool seeing these people in town. Several scenes were shot with our property in the background. It was a popular filming location as other movies were filmed there over the years. A version of “Of Mice and Men”, “Ellie”, and “Pure Country” with George Strait and Susan Sarandon. It was a popular little county. Good times.

Wow, what a great conversation. I've always liked his work, but I've never heard him in a long form conversation like this. He's a great storyteller with what comes across as a genuine openness. I loved the story where his mom had the guy go into the cage to feed the lion. And the story where Ted's wife Mary pranked Josh by having his pants taken in a little bit at a time so that he would think he was gaining weight was also great. I had read somewhere that George Clooney had done the same prank to Matt Damon on a movie they were working on. It's a great prank.

In this interview, Josh Brolin is a philosopher. He talks implicitly of being enlightened, and this only comes from experience and maybe more specifically one who has led a phenomenological approach to life. At 18min and 42 seconds, he mentions that the first half of his life (45 years) was lived one way (e.g., risky, not sober), and he says of this new path of his life is like a second life. Although often attributed to Confucius but not found in his writings, the quote "We have two lives, and the second begins when we realize we only have one" has real roots in the philosophies of Jean-Paul Sartre or Albert Camus who explored themes of life’s meaning, the inevitability of death, and the importance of living authentically. Josh sounds like an avid reader and writer of philosophy. In his movies, a great actor! In real life and socially, I bet one feels enlightened having spent time with him. Great interview, Ted and Woody!

Seven years sober and the only times that I've even thought about having a drink was after some stressful interactions with my parents. I do miss the tacticle quality of a cold beer after a hard day at work. But not the drink itself... just the fact that somehow a cold beer *seems* colder than a cold soda or other drink. Or maybe it really is colder? Maybe a beer cooler can be set to a lower temp without freezing the contents? So if the drink companies can figure out some kind of drinkable antifreeze, that would be great! 😂

😄😄😄 Josh is A LOT; definitely his mother's son (according to what he himself has said), but it's absolutely delightful. He's the most fascinating dude: funny as hell, tells absolutely ELITE stories. I don't sense pretense at all, and that's saying a lot for someone who grew up in the shadow of Hollywood. He and I would get along...FAMOUSLY? (pun intended? 🤔) I'd more than likely have to take calculated breaks away from this crackling, lightning storm of a person, but I'd always return, because I HUNGER for this type of authenticity but my introvert brain would be like, "PHEW! 🫨😵‍💫🫨😮‍💨" Lol! I feel that. I used to drink every night after work and all weekend. I am a simple country boy, and where I come from, it was Coffee Brandy with just a splash of milk. My father and 3/4's of my family were also alcoholics. I watched my father basically commit $ue i $ide. Prior to that, I was already absolutely ashamed of myself, and after my dad, I lost it a while. I woke up one day under a buddies table covered in bodily fluids and finally said to myself fek this, "I am done." I totally understand that feeling of what do ppl talk about and who do I even know who is sober. Pretty much nobody. I had to completely change my life and outlook on it. Most of those so-called friends are gone they don't know me anymore, which is fine. I just hit 10 years sober. I did one time buy a 1/5th of brandy and took 2 sips. I just didn't even want to touch it anymore it just didn't feel right type of deal. I think once you get to that point, you're just done and don't even want to be near it or anyone drinking anymore. It takes a while to re learn how to live, but once you do, you don't look back at least I didn't. I am a boring old fart now, but I am 100 times happier than I ever was drinking and partying.

I met Carroll Shelby in 1973 at a Rotary Club Luncheon in Odessa, TX while Carroll was also hocking his Carroll Shelby Chile Products (which were very good). Josh has the look, the smile, the talk, the walk, the whole enchilada that is "Carroll Shelby". Of course Christian Bale absolutely nailed Ken Miles. To meet Carroll is to instantly love him. I had an experience with a bear in Colorado. It was an experience like what Josh Brolin was describing. It was close, and I was in its territory, but I survived because I knew how to make eye contact without too much as to appear threatening, but not so little as to seem like a cartoon caricature of a steaming chicken ready to be devoured! LOL! I packed my tent, and that bear was about 25 feet away from me just watching me, He followed me maintaining that same distance all the way down a mountain at a walk for about two miles. I looked back occasionally, and it was there following me. When I reached the river, I looked back, and it was gone. It was just escorting me out of its territory. :)

The story about your mom having a condition where she just laughs hysterically at inappropriate times is something I totally understand. I have that same condition, I’ve laughed when people fall or get hurt, inappropriate but I can’t help it.

Josh you need to write and create a limited series about growing up with your mom. Your adventures and how you could love a toxic personality. It doesn't mean the person is bad although they certainly can be.
