As a tv writer, I've studied Cheers. Deconstructed many, many of their episodes. Besides the writing being the best in the business -- Ted Danson is one of the BEST, if not THE best comedy actor I've ever witnessed on screen. His work in The Good Place shows how he's stood the test of time. His timing, vulnerabilities, ease with his body, brave choices and whatever magical charisma the universe gave him - THE BEST.

Right. As an astronaut, I get great inspiration too. it helps me when I am doing astronaut things. Also, as a film director, it also helps me study and deconstruct the episodes to help me direct some of my actors... like Bob De Niro. Now, as a world class Olympic champion, I find the show to be very very funny.

For me it's Bea Arthur but loved Cheers growing up. Ted is undoubtedly elite and he was brilliant as a regular on Curb where like every character on Curb I would wait for the moment where he would lose his patience with Larry

Okay I am a certified Cheers nut, and I am so jazzed about this. When I start talking about this show people give me a look like "dude it was a comedy about a bar." Like no, it was so much more. It was in a lot of ways a master class in character driven writing. It's a show about so many sad and difficult things that put these people in the same room together. Sam, a recovering alcoholic living beyond his moment and overcoming addiction in a bar of all places, who loves deeply and tries very hard not to show it through a facade of bravado, trying to decide if he's the playboy of his baseball days or the scary hidden things in his heart. Coach, a selfless and simple man who would do anything for Sam because he knows his heart. Carla, living through a broken marriage and single motherhood, tough as nails. Cliff, who just wants to be loved and escape the orbit of his mother from time to time. Norm, a nobody accountant who is a god in Cheers, who tells jokes about his wife to earn points with the crowd, but who has always loved her deeply--just doesn't know how to show it most of the time. Dianne, a naive student who sees something in Sam, fights for him, until finally, he fights for her. Man, look at where actors like Ted and Woody have gone from there. They were amazing character actors playing amazing characters, and they deserve the success they've had.

I am rewatching it for the first time in decades. It's a spectacular show. Fantastic writing. Fantastic casting. Brilliant acting and character relationship development. Risking sounding like a curmudgeon, it's why shows were so much better in the 80s-90s. They had to be good to stay on the air. They had to have good characters with good acting and writing. Especially if you run for 11 years.

Cheers was unique for the time in that it was using actual film instead of videotape. A much more expensive filming process, but clearly paid off. If you watch another show from that era, even higher budget shows, they are often filmed with video tape and look much worse in comparison.

@@nuncapasaran9374 That might be one of the best descriptions of what Cheers represents for people and why people loved and related to the show so much! Absolutely fantastic, could not have worded that better myself! I'm 37, about to be 38 and I would watch the reruns around age 9-10 with my aunt, and it was her favorite show and she introduced me to it, and I recently got to rewatch every season a few years ago when it was on Netflix and I enjoyed it even more because I hadn't seen it since I was like 15 so it was like seeing it for the first time again, there was so much I'd forgotten that I was blown away by how great and fun it was! 🙂✌️💚

What’s funny about Will getting the part in Arrested over Rainn Wilson is that if Rainn had gotten that he wouldn’t have been available for The Office a couple years later. The universe works in mysterious ways

Turns my stomach to think of Rainn as Job. I'm sure it would have been good in a different way, I do love that guy, but it's an alternate timeline my brain can't handle! Also Will was sorta the wild card of wild cards in that cast that realllllly threw it over the top.

My whole family used to sit and watch Cheers together. That was part of my upbringing. And I love both of these guys like they're part of my family. Now if we could have had coach with these two. Nothing better. But that is not to diminish these 2 guys' impact to my life. It brought my family together every week. Something that can never be understated. And something that can never be recreated. Thank you both, and the creators for their contribution to my life. It's something I can never get back, and something I would never change. I really can't remember the last time a podcast made me laugh this hard. I really can't wait for more of this. Thank you guys. To the team, Ted Danson, and Woody Harrelson. This was a great idea. When it ended I was like wait. There is no way this was almost an hour. It was so natural, and entertaining. I love hearing the business side of their experience. You think these guys are talented, and have it all figured out. But you realize that they are truly surprised by their initial fame, and their continued success. Just keep grindin'.

I was in high school in 1982 when Cheers started. I would tell my family, watch this new show, Cheers (before recording options - if you missed a show you’d have to wait for a summer rerun). I kept pushing everyone and soon they were hooked. Ratings were low it’s first season, but once it caught on it was top ten each week. I don’t know how well it holds up with a new viewer in this era, some of my love for it might be nostalgia. I’ve watched the series (and Frasier) a few times. I think the writing holds up.

Especially if he was with his brother Brett. Those two. Ted I would see in and out of Gold's Venice through out the years, I knew his trainer. And Will, like Bradly Cooper, I painted his apartment complex that he lived in when he first got to Venice, always called him the "White Barry White", And this podcast shows off his tone, which has so much character. All the best to this pod cast.

Ted and Woody, that your podcast is immediately successful is very simple: you both are not just great in your profession but, as much as a member of the general public like me can know, you are great people. Just be you, and the only thing that could possibly fail would be the perceptions of a dullard audience.❤

At first I was horrified thinking they were going to do one of those watch every episode in order kind of shows. It worked for Parks and Rec because that was a show that many of us have binge watched in the first place. But I was a kid when Cheers was on and my hazy rememberance of a show that I havn't watched in decades mixed with their hazy references to it is actually the perfect approach. This was a fun start. I like the idea of meeting Woody's friends and hearing crazy Woody stories, that makes a pretty good pretense. Maybe Jameela could come by for Ted. Would love to see some of the surviving Cheers cast members too. It doesn't have to be like Smartless, I think it would be a mistake to push too hard in that direction. Cool to see these guys in the same room together!
