No, it pretty much is the same. It's about as bad as this. I'm sick of seeing everyone defending the Sonic movie. It sucked and everyone knows it. The entire movie was filled with nothing but cringe jokes, Sonic was obnoxious, the human characters are in the movie too much and all idiots, and Jim Carrey was awful, ruining Robotnik by just recycling his cringy Grinch performance without changing anything. Sonic 'flossing', being a memelord and making cringe humor the whole way through. The Sonic movie sucked and it was every bit as bad as this was. The only reason anyone defends or pretends to like the Sonic movie is because they tricked and manipulated everyone into liking it. The made a fake trailer with a bad effect that was designed to get attention and making petitions for, then they "miraculously" release the final movie with a slightly less terrible effect. All of a sudden everyone thinks the movie was "saved" even though they never changed the worst aspect of it: the script and the cringe humor. If you cater the the entitlement of fans and make them believe their little social movement made some change and manipulate an audience of kids into thinking that they 'listened" to "the fans", then those fans will go see a terrible movie and pretend it's good becuase they all think they helped "save it" by fooling them into thinking they fixed the movie by creating a smokescreen excuse to get people to focus on instead of the entire screenplay being cringe memes, poor direction and bad writing. This Sonic movie sucked. But the scam marketing manipulated and gaslit people into thinking it's better than it is, because they tricked the fans into thinking it's "their" movie. And all they had to do was release a fake trailer.

Turning the Classic 2d animated character into a weird looking cgi creation (even though woody doesn't look that bad ) : ✔ The Overusage of toilet humour that will only amuse 3 year olds but make others cringe : ✔ Making the title character being reduced to being a side character to a couple of boring generic human characters no one gives a shit about : ✔ A workaholic father who never has time with their child but through some crazy shenanigans , finally learns that they should spend more time with their child : ✔ The addition of pop songs to try make the movie seem hip and cool for today's youth but it reality is actual quite lame and will soon be dated in the next couple of years : ✔ A man vs Nature subplot we've seen God knows how many times before : ✔ So pretty much everything you seen in every other shitty cartoon adaptations you'll see the in this train wreck of a film, and as someone who grew up loving woody woodpecker this movie is giant insult to everything the character stood for and universal should be ashamed for what they did to Walter Lantz once popular character.

Woody has actually had quite the history of lackluster efforts. Two barely trying to okay modern TV show adaptions, even his classic output in theaters was starting to lose steam by the start of the 50s ALL the way to the freaking 70s. Yeah, his classic cartoons lasted THAT long. This movie is just another unfortunate blemish on his reputation. If you want my recommendation of GOOD Woody Woodpecker stuff, just watch the cartoons directed by animators James “Shamus” Culhane & Dick Lundy of the mid to last of the 40s (and MAYBE some from the early 50s). The Woody cartoons from those directors have actual ambition and care put into them.

It’s interesting that this movie doesn’t work at all and yet the first sonic movie really does in my opinion. I think it’s cause it actually has decently fun action scenes and almost everyone involved seems to be trying their hardest which makes the cliches a lot funnier. Sonic is also more over the top and goofy but takes itself more seriously which is always fun to see. A lot of scenes that would suck in that movie end up being great cause of how straight and serious everyone plays it.
@isaacargesmith82172 жыл бұрын
It also helps that sonic as a base character, even at sonic's worst, is less likely to annoy people than woody with his intentionally irritating attitude and laugh. Further add to this the fact that movie sonic's a bit more of a vulnerable and softer character than modern sonic. Makes it way more approachable while keeping that sonic attitudey charm. Not to knock woody he's got his own thing going on just its easy to see him being grating given part of his schtick is being an intentional irritant unlike sonic who's attitude's more going for "cool". Doesn't help with how flanderized Woodie is in this movie further making this an issue.

A good chunk of it just comes out from the simple fact that Sonic just had more effort into it. An live-action hybrid could not be the best approach at first, but the director and screenwriters tried their best to do a good movie and to stay loyal to Sonic's character. Woody Woodpecker, on the other hand, is just a movie made quickly to get some money. And any Woody fan will confirm that the Woody from the movie DOES NOT even remotely resembles how he is on the classic cartoon.
@clayjack99692 жыл бұрын
@@greenmushroom2587 yeah that’s a great point. Even a lot of sonic fans prefer Ben Schwartz over the OG voice actor cause OG actors plays the character too one note. So even the big changes they made sit right with fans and the general public. I think you hit the nail on the head by saying the effort and love for the characters is what made the big difference. Woody had none of that.
@metalspinda95942 жыл бұрын
Well the Sonic movie had a good Mentor (Long Claw) character which eased exhibition into immersion. Sonic himself also does the self narration bit *correctly* for a change. Lastly It had a good villain! Jim Carry seamlessly transition's Dr. Robotnik from videogame to film using his newer villain chops for acting. Woody's dumb movie was little more than lazy, crude humor and unappealing characters. Sonic and Woody are LEAGUES apart. Even Yogi Bear did the partially animated bit better than Woody.

it didn't innovate a damn thing. The Sonic movie still sucked and it was just as bad as this was. Follows the same garbage formula, has the same cringe humor and everything. The only reason people think they like the Sonic movie is becuase the marketing manipulated and gaslit the easily duped fanbase with a fake trailer. Then after getting everyone's support using the "bad sonic effect" as a smokescreen for petitions, and backlash.... then switching the movie out with the real Sonic effect they had all along, suddenly the fans think they "saved" the movie, and overlooked the bad direction, the horrible writing, the formulaic CGI cartoon animal stock plot and the cringe humor. The makers of this film used the entitlement of the Sonic fanbase to trick them into thinking they helped "save" it, who then felt obligated to watch a movie they suddenly felt was "their movie" that they "helped fix" The Sonic movie sucks. it's a scam, a manipulation, a con job. I'm shocked Woody the Woodpecker has been treated this bad, you think with all the Cartoon Revivals with Disney and Warner Brothers and such you think Universal Studios would've actually tried, but a Live Action film that's failure like the rest of the attempted Cartoons getting a Live Action film, man the rest of them are Oscar winners compared to Woody here.

Well, this review made me want a movie where a classic cartoon character uses cartoon logic in the real world, and kills/hurts someone. Garfield kicks Odie off the table, causing him to break his leg. Odie, the all loving dog, forgives him, but how does Jon react? Wile. E Coyote throws dynamite at the road runner. The landscape is littered with holes, full of the charred remains of innocent animals. He has destroyed his home, in a fruitless attempt to eat a bird. Yosemite Sam doesn't use his guns safely, and shoots someone.

For all this movie does wrong, and trust me, you could not make a list of everything wrong with this movie unless you are okay with deforestation, at least Woody KIND OF looks alright for a "Live action" adaptation of a cartoon, by which i mean they didn't try to turn him into a mutant to make him look realistic, they actually made him look and move like fucking Woody Woodpecker. Now, whether that style of animated character fits in with human actors is another story, i think it can work to some degree but there has to be some level of self awareness to it, you can't just throw a 3d render of Steven Universe into a live action setting and expect it to work just fine, but hey, at least Woody isn't ugly.... Just annoying and gross.... Like to a point that no other live action cartoon character i can think of has done, so they kind of shoot themselves in the foot there.
@woodman39262 жыл бұрын
The closest I can think of that’s like Woody is Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles from the Sonic movies. They don’t move the same way he does, but by god do they look like themselves
@sackfu79522 жыл бұрын
@@woodman3926 fair, that one is a pretty good example of looking like the originals and sort of fitting in with humans.
