For the price looks very good, I'm not entirely convinced with those two joysticks and where they are placed, but again, for the price... btw for those who don't know, Fatar and Studiologic are the same company, Fatar being an OEM manufacturer for other companies and Studiologic being its "private label".

@JeffPalmer83, I use the Numa X GT primarily as a controller for my Dexibell SX8 (though using sounds from both). I absolutely _love_ the key action on the GT version. As a controller, it is simple but perfectly capable and they did a great job of keeping it simple without sacrificing functionality. The built-in mixer and high-quality effects really expand the possibilities beyond typical controllers.

I was saving for the Numa X 73, but just got the Compact 2 instead to get in the stage piano waters. I’ve mainly played lightweighted synths and the Compact 2 key action seems good to start with for me. Good enough sounds and easy to integrate with iOS synths, and it got speakers to. Best 440 € spent! Might upgrade to Numa X Piano later on

Hi Woody, hope you are well. I had a Crumar Seven and loved everything about it except one thing: the accuracy of the physical modellled Wurly included having just 64 notes! Yes - silent keys. (Yes, the bass part that embarassingly vanishes when you are doing a left hand bass trio and concentrating on singing the song). Does the Numa Wurly emulation have 73 notes? Someone on the Crumar FB board defending the decision said to me 'How could they know what notes that never existed sounded like?' to which I said 'They can't, but if they'd just transpose and offered 73 notes, nor could anybody tell them they got it wrong!". But I agree with you - there is a connection felt with those modelled EPs that sample based solutions don't have, hence my curiousity here.
@WoodyPianoShack

i will check that, but if i recall it filled the whole 73 notes. studiologic different company to viscount of course. i kind of respect that level of accuracy and it wouldn't bother me adapting to the original range.

Congrats on the new shack and new keyboard, Woody. Nice video as always. I have the SL88 as a master controller, which I suspect is basically the same keybed with no sound engine. The case is the same solid metal and very sturdy, especially considering the relatively low price point. Definitely feels premium (and weighs a tonne!) My only complaint (which I've seen others have online) is that over time the keys seem to develop a rattle on release. From a video of someone doing a DIY fix on this it looks like there is a strip of foam used to absorb the vibration that gets compressed over time. Mine's a few years old, so hopefully they have fixed this on newer models! Looking forward to hearing what sounds it can produce.

I had one of those SL88s when I lived in London. Although my keyboard experience is / was limited - definitely could tell the quality of the keyboard keys over my old Korg SP200 (which I still have - now back here in NZ again). I picked up that SL88 was second hand for ~150GBP. Seemed like a steal for how good it felt. Visually it wasn't much though - and definitely concur regarding the weight! Very (very) solid unit. But having tasted the SL88 / Fatar - I feel considerably partial towards getting that keybed tech again. That it appears in Nord keyboards indicates to me that I'm not incorrect in my favourable appraisal of it.

Did you notice this? If you connect Midi out or USB midi to a receiving other synth/device, use one of the zones for midi, mute this zone, then the Numa X of course sends no notes anymore. But now the weird thing: that zone still sends midi controller data (for example pitch, modulation, sustain etcetera). Mentioned this several to Studio Logic. After a few firmware updates this is still not solved.

yeah, that would have been amazing if they could do the premium action in the 73, agree. yes, the wart is a disappointment as the rest of the build is so nice, you would almost expect the internal psu. maybe the GT has it, i haven't checked.

The external power-supply is often to cut costs related to certification in all regions (e.g. the "CE" mark in Europe), which is expensive, and more difficult with an internal power supply. The size is indeed unfortunate; most manufacturers currently make you choose between a more portable size and premium keybeds (can't have both 🤷‍♂️) Either way; thanks for your video! Hello friend, I read your comment and I decided to write to you, recently I had the yamaha cp88 and I liked it a lot or action, but I wanted it to use it as a midi controller, connected by usb to my pc with win 10 and play vsts kontakt etc in cubase pro 12. but i couldn't get the keyboard to give me close to 127 playing speed, so i returned it and ordered a studiologic numa x piano gt, i would like to ask you, do you think the numa will work for me as a usb connected midi controller? Will I be able to change the speed and sensitivity curve of the keyboard and will my PC receive the changes well by connecting it only via USB? and my last question, how is the feeling of the keys of the numa gt, in comparison with the yamaha cp88? Are the Numa ones lighter and faster? Please, I would love to know your opinion. thank you so much.

@ispianist Жыл бұрын
@@electedmusic7685 Well is kinda hard to describe the feel of the Numa. Since there is not other keyboard on the market that gets close to it. I will describe close to a steinway piano. The travel when you press the key is not as deep as the CP88. You can adjust the velocity curve on the GT. You can have up to 4 midi channels played on the GT or you can combined the internal sounds with the midi sounds. I think that is very awesome. You can adjust the volume with the 4 knobs for each designated channel.

@@ispianist the numa is lighter in key than the cp88? I also want it to play vsts of strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion... do you think it would be comfortable? I'm not a professional pianist, you use the cp88 and I didn't find it tiring, is the numa x gt even lighter? And my last question, my friend, do you think I can use it as a midi controller, connecting it only via USB? I am not going to use the sounds of the numa. I just want to connect it via usb and use it as a midi controller, I have a sl studio 88, fatar tp 100 key, but I never liked it, it's very heavy and tiring. I expect the Numa X GT to be much better at that.

Woody, thanks for reviewing this instrument. I understand that Fatar is owned by Studiologic, or vice versa. Lol, I can't imagine Fatar being pronounced like Faitar. This 73-key model is very interesting to me, but the ungraded aspect of the weighted action has some of us pianists worried. Please do tell your impressions of the action when you can, particularly whether the bass end gets boomy using a piano technique as opposed to a keyboard split technique. @@WoodyPianoShack yeah... Absolutely.... C scale players would not face any problem with short travel keys.... Another major advantage of short travel keys is that these short travel keys tend to have a behaviour similar to waterfall keybed, thereby facilates organ techniques like rake and smear/ glissandos, which might be difficult to play on a digital piano with hammer action keys and large travels near the back ends of the keys.

Owner here: amazing keybed and great action. It weighs a ton (seriously) but if you're looking for feel it's hard to go past at the price point. Downsides: soundbanks, interface, no ability to sample or load your own, locked into the Numa manager (terrible), Studiologic releasing banks like "Movie Strings" - ridiculous. If it had the ability to wipe all the factory banks (keeping the pianos) and the ability to sample and create your own banks THEN it would be a Nord killer hands down. Studiologic have got lost in their own hype as far as sounds go (trust me - Kontakt will far out do the factory banks on this unit) but because it's FATAR well yeah, action is killer. Also, the FX do NOT apply to the inputs so forget about individual instruments. The master FX do relate however that's very restrictive. Again, this unit sells on its action and feel. If you are on stage then this may be of interest but if you're studio bound then stick to the same action on a MIDI machine. Realistically, a laptop will give you a lot more flexibility and a greater sound palette. Studiologic boffins: please read! You could wipe the market if you listened to your customers a little more. There is NO reason to limit this unit to a locked and antiquated system of seemingly narrow and unusable soundbanks based on someone at FATAR thinking they know what the musician wants - I mean PlectraXPluck and ClariXPack? C'mon that's just silly. You make great keys no question, but you have absolutely no idea what is needed sonically (ironically UVI is featured on the website but it's ignored as far as versatility goes). Just take a leaf from the Roland or Nord book and you will be on your way.

My channelis all about music and tech..hiw i wish i can also experience opportunitues like this being sent a keyboard to try out. I am an aspiring pianist and most covers i do on my channel are using my 61 key korg kross. I have a fee piano pieces that require a full length 88 key but sadly cant afford one. Lol. I have seen the 88 key version of this online and it costs around 60k here in the Philippines ($1,100)

I got the Numa X piano 73 and I prefer it over my Yamaha Modx7 for live playing piano, Rhodes, Organ. Very good keybed and Pianos, the rest also very usable. The combination with an iPad is userfriendly.

The keybed of the X 73 that I tried felt nice, but was quite thumpy (noisy) and there was also a slight mechanical clang in the upper register (turned the volume off to confirm this). Could you comment on your experience?

I got one, returned it, didn't like the tones of the build quality. Got a Casio px-s6000 instead, much happier with that

" tones of the build quality", you mean or? i've been playing it for a while and it has its own character, which I quite like. re build, well surely better than the casios which are great pianos but all plastic?
@DinoFancellu

@@WoodyPianoShack I found it to be tank like, and the tones so bad that people commented on it. Re build quality, I had one dodgy key that wouldn't fire at the escapement point. I spoke to Gianni at StudioLogic, he gave me some word salad to say that was ok. Which means I simply had to return it. Very disappointed at him to not own up to an obvious defect The Casio ps-s6000/7000 is VERY nice. Slim, great tones. You should check them out. kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6umf6d5ibabaQ Stu@Merriam also did some very nice reviews of them

WHY OH WHY NO PROPER MOD WHEEL!!!! its USELESS as a controller with those useless joysticks.... geeez, thats the reason i never EVER bought an studiologic controller.

@@WoodyPianoShack nah, i dont get why they have to reinvent the wheel (see what i did there ?), i work with string libraries and for me a proper mod wheel and aftertouch are a must. Even the classic keyboards that introduced the joystick concept like the D50 or the wavestation STILL had a modwheel or similar.

First impressions from unboxing. Awful way to box a piano using great big staples. This offers the chance of destroying the box more, scratching the actual piano when getting it out or anything else them sharp staples touch. A much better way is to tape it down the middle with parcel straps each end. No sharp parts.
