Regarding survival games in woodycraft and that genre in general, PubG technically existed for years prior to it becoming a standalone game. It was a mod for Arma that was created with inspiration from the movie "Battle Royale". So yeah, he didn't create the idea but he was the first to bring it into the gaming community widespread. I still remember when the hunger games servers started popping up a looong time after playing the Arma 3 mod.
