And Kirsty, I made the same mistake with a colorwork sock and cutting in the afterthought heel….I would use a shadow wrap heel now if you wanted to knit your 1x1 colorwork without a solid break 😊. Kristy, here in the Pacific Northwest of the US, socks and sandals are standard seasonal wear. Sandals without socks for our summer and add socks for cool and cold weather. Your color work socks are amazing! I have used the Rock It Tee pattern for a number of tops as it is easy to modify for different yarns, sleeves and finishes. I love the yarn you are using for yours. I may have to knit another one. Tracy, I am very impressed with your crocheted sweaters. I don't usually think of crochet producing such nice garments.

you can always knit a waste yarn where you want your heel so it would be easier to pick those heel stitches up when you go to do the after thought heel

Love the colourwork socks! Have you thought about a forethought heel rather than an afterthought one? You just knit across in spare yarn so its much easier to unpick that to get to your live stitches (as long as you know where you want to put the heel while your knitting it!) Xx

It's so much easier, all you do is knit across the stitches with some thinner waste yarn, then slip the waste yarn stitches back onto the other needle again so you can pick up your sock yarn where you left it, and then just carry on knitting🙂 I learnt it from a sock pattern in Knitting Magazine by Vikki Bird called Twisting Pathways... they're gorgeous ❤

For your colour work socks, perhaps it would help if you inserted waste yarn where you want to insert your afterthought heel, then you don't have to cut your knitting - Drowning in Yarn has a tutorial for this, but there are others on You Tube too
