Kusanagi (evil Kyo) has the same voice as Kaneda since we're going on about the Akira references. Back in vanilla 2k2 they even recreate part of the exchange where the two of them throw hands. There's also another one that's even in UM when he fights someone with a weapon where he tells them to put it down and fight like a man, which is something he told Tetsuo after his laser gun's battery died and he realized trying to fight a kid with psychic powers like his wasn't gonna work.

K9999 was the Eolith character and his creation is about as straightforward as Woolie says. Angel, on the other hand, is the Evoga character and her creation is a much more interesting story involving Evoga's best Kof player sweeping a team of SNK's best

This 98 UM, 11, and 13 all get left on consoles which sucks cuz they're the best ones. Instead they release 94-97, 99-01, and 03 everytime and I couldn't care less. Ps4 only got 98 UM somewhat recently.

They got rid K9999 because he was, as you know, a rip off of Tetsuo Shima and because of that SNK had to get rid of him because he got them into legal trouble. Note that SNK themselves didn’t make K9999 because 2001, the game he debuted in, was developed by a South Korean company named Eolith. So later on they replaced him with Nameless who I honestly much prefer

SNK got rid K9999 because he was too much a rip off of Tetsuo Shima not only K9999 has the same voice actor as Tetsuo also most of his normal attacks, special moves, super moves, appearance(yes, even his jacket that appears in his intro of KOF2002 Tetsuo also uses the same jacket in the manga),animations and quotes are taken from Tetsuo. We don't know if SNK got into legal trouble because of K9999 but we know SNK hates K9999 to point of him, being removed from canon and artwork good example of this KOF XIV art gallery there's no single image of him and images that contain k9999 with nests team SNK took him out from the picture also there's Reports from those who have visited SNK post-revival have also confirmed there exists an unspoken rule at the company that mentioning the character by name or even alluding to the fact that he existed at one point is strictly banned.

Now is more like they intentionally sell you incomplete games so they can just sell you the rest as DLC. Dude I really miss unlocking characters by doing challenges like finishing Arcade mode in hard without losing matches or a certain number of times, now you have to pay extra money for your already full price game.

Arguably, KOF2002 is just a DLC expansion on KOF2001 which was a DLC expansion on KOF 2000 which was a DLC expansion on KOF99. One could argue that's paying full price four times for one game. (Of course, it's not like KOF99 was brand new with nothing taken from KOF98 either, but I need to have a cutoff point somewhere) The current system is arguably better, at least for people who are following a given game from the start - if all the characters you want are already in the base game, you don't need to spend any more money on the game. Or if a character you are interested in comes out, you only need to pay for that one character and aren't forced into buying everything else in the same "season". Similar thing with unlockable characters. Unlockable characters didn't get "replaced" by DLC characters. Unlockable characters are now simply available from the beginning because having characters locked away behind single player content that not everyone wants to perfectly play through is bullshit, and DLC characters combined with free seasonal re-balance patches replaced being forced to pay full price to get 8 more characters and system changes in a bundle, also letting us not deal with having to buy a new version just to have access to online modes as people stop playing the older version online.
