Imma tell this guy to walk forward without compromising that we know something he doesn’t.” “Wait, we both might get out of this as long as we endure some pain? Great, let me rationalize the shit out of this coming agony so we get it done.” He may have even realized early on that the only way for the princess to leave, is for us to open that door, but also knows that letting the narrator know that will compromise the situation

This story is very Sunshine of the Spotless Mind to me. The "end of the world" is your broken heart. And each version of the princess is some lie you're trying to tell yourself to get yourself to kill off your feelings for her, but when you behave that way you're also showing something ugly about yourself. When you take the time to actually look not only at yourself, but all the facets of her as a person, you continue to fall in love with her. The narrator never wants to be hurt again and just wants to sit in nothingness and not feel, but if you do the opposite and continue to grow as a person you are open to many more of life's experiences.

An interesting interpretation, but out of curiosity have you played the game yourself? Spoilers if you haven't: The game is in some ways more literal than it might lead you to believe. The end of the world is an actual real threat. But it is also a love story so you're interpretation still works metaphorically alongside it.

23:05 I'm thinking about how there might have been a chapter 0 with no voices that resulted in the hero voice being created at the end. We don't know where the hero voice comes from, but it does eem exaclty like all the other non-narrator voices. If that's the case, it's also interesting to note that the hero seems to be pro princess leaning at the start. He's happy if you refuse to go in the first place, is happy about any don't immediately go to kill her choices and also keep saying how she's beautiful when seeing her for the first time.
