One of the best hand forged and crafted pieces of functional art I have ever been able to view! I really like the black motif. Would love to see a scabbard or sheath in black pebbled leather or something similar

Just me and wishful thinking - FZ and Shurap Collab. You make woots billets, and Shurap makes some crazy Damascus pattern out of weird stuff and combines them. Then you make the handle. Probably would be the most viewed knife making video on YT

Lets be honest. We didnt see him melting up iron ore with some other added substances, like poop, and ash, that used to be done by wootz. That would be his own steel. This is done steel from bearrings. Anyway, its a very nice work ofc.

Very beautyfull. I got catched on 2 things. First, why not grinding off most ofvthe material prior quenching? The material is softer, and no accindents with grinding overheating. Second, why handle glued only? A mosaic stick would improve it further, and safer.

nice work, i love your wootz! i have some questions: why do you do stock removal with wootz steel? can't it be forged unlike pattern welded constructions? why do you do heat treatment before grinding? I'd imagine the grinding and heat treatment may be more effective for good edge retention? just wondering.. :)

I always wonder, what the benefits of your wootz steel, i mean sometimes you used bearing steel, or razor blade to make wootz, which in itself a good steel for knife, is it purely for the patern, or the wootz steel properties just generally better? It's just pure curiosity, always loved your work
@brunovandooren3762
@brunovandooren3762 Жыл бұрын
Most of the benefit is the aesthetic. There are cutting benefits too, because the carbides act as microscopic serrations that are exposed form the edge steel. However I always describe that as 'the cherry on the cake'. The most important thing is to have a cake to put that cherry on. I like working with wootz, it's gorgeous steel. But if we start looking at modern high alloy steels such as Vanadis 4 for example, that would eat wootz blades for breakfast. But I like working with wootz most of all because it is such beautiful and organic looking steel.
