Word 2016: Insert And Link Excel Into Word

Word 2016 training video on how to insert Excel into Microsoft Word, either as a simple copy and paste with link options; so any changes you make in Excel will reflect in Word, or as an object. This can be helpful if you want to print your Excel worksheet out like a book with the "gutter" feature that's only available in Microsoft's Word, by insert Excel into Word.

When the picture on disk change dimensions, Microsoft Word still tries to fit it to the dimensions of the previous inserted picture. Is there a way around that?

First of all, I want to give you a *huge* thank-you!! This is tremendously kind of you to respond to my question by posting an entire video to answer it! Great stuff, and quite superior service! :) Truly excellent! Now I have to give the "But." :( While this is super-cool and looks absolutely great, it's not working for what I'm doing. (And now I am wondering if I have gone about all of this entirely wrong.) I used Excel to create a very, very WIDE spreadsheet, one that covers about 50 pages. I made the pages go across rather than down because it was much easier to copy the formulas across the pages that way. When I save it as a .pdf document, it divides it nicely into pages as I planned, but when I try to copy that file into Word as an object, it only imports the very first page. Do you know any more tricks that might address THIS problem? :/

I thought that perhaps you could actually select a range of cells, copy that range, then in Word Ctrl+V to paste, and then click on the Paste Options tag and select “link”. Considering that the pages are very, very wide…that wouldn’t work well. Also, Word doesn’t stretch beyond 22” in width. Without looking at the details of your project it would be challenging to find and recommend other options to work it into Word. If I come across something later I’ll post it.

Thank you so very much! Your information was still quite helpful to me. I am totally loving learning about Excel--it can be almost like magic. :) For this project, I ended up just adding empty columns to each page in Excel to approximate a gutter margin, then saving as a .pdf. Though laborious, it worked.

Thank you for this hidden gem of a video. However, as long as I use the "Link to file" option, the spreadsheet just appears as a blank square. Right click and "update link" doesn't help. Any ideas?

It might be that the worksheet you're inserting into Word, as a link, has data spread out all over, and it's having a hard time focusing, or pulling it in. Especially, if some cells once had data entered and deleted, but the formatting hasn't been cleared and will pull in those empty cells, that is until again, the formatting is cleared out of the cells as well. See if any of these suggestions might be the issue. Glad to hear the video has been helpful. Thank you.

Do these links support absolute paths only? I mean, when I copy both 2 files, say, to a flash drive, the link is not working anymore. Is it possible to create kind of relative links so that I could copy both fines together to any other folder?

I recommend logging out of your Microsoft account, as well as clearing your Internet's cache and restarting your computer and then try again.
